The Land Trust's tenth and final 1% Wednesday Industry Grouping highlights our dedicated Pennies for Preservation restaurant partners who serve dinner. The idea of restaurant customers providing pennies to help protect and preserve St. Simons all began with Jim and Barbara Barta, owners of Barbara Jean’s Restaurant and Bar. The iconic, much-loved restaurant is nestled in the center of the St. Simons Pier Village and is as much of a landmark destination as the Village itself. Opened in 1998, the cozy eatery is more like Mom’s kitchen than it is a restaurant. The heart of the dining experience, and the creative force behind all the recipes, is namesake Barbara Jean. Home-style Southern entrees that are made-from-scratch daily create the experience of “Easy Southern Dining” and include famed house specialties like Crab Cakes, She Crab Soup, traditional southern side dishes like squash casserole and slowly simmered green beans and collards, the slightly mysterious “Chocolate Stuff” dessert, and homemade breads.

"Grinder to griddle" is Certified Burgers & Beverage's approach to the hamburger. The first bite of any of the specialty burgers proves that this is no fast-food establishment! For more than 20 years, Delaney’s Bistro and Bar has been a favorite fine-dining destination on St. Simons for locals and tourists alike. Another family-owned-and-operated restaurant, Delaney's is a founding Pennies for Preservation partner. The lunch menu features executive chef and owner Tom Delaney’s own sautéed crab cakes, fettuccine, and an array of light and innovative salads. All of Tom’s specials and regular menu items are designed to pair with carefully selected wines from his extensive wine menu, ensuring a singular flavor experience. This popular high-energy eatery, Ember Farm to Fire, opened its doors to the Golden Isles community seven years ago. Since then, owner Tyler Roberson and her team have have been serving up delicious, farm to fire meals that are expertly and creatively prepared and made from locally sourced ingredients.

The menu is inspired by the flavors and traditions of Southeastern United States cuisine. A global influence denoting European and Asian fair are also important contributors. The craft beverage program focuses on the use of fresh ingredients and includes a variety of unique wines, innovative Southern brews, house-infused specialty cocktails, and a vast selection of premium spirits. Established in 2018, The Local Brew's mission is to provide local and responsibly-sourced cuisine and refreshments that are delicious and creative while helping build happy and healthy communities. Each item on the menu is curated by Forbes Five Star Chef and co-owner Aaron Bellizzi, a former chef of the Cloister's Georgian Room.

Sal's Neighborhood Pizzeria's new owners, Holly and Ameet Shetty, continue to partner with the establishment's namesake Sal, "The Pie Guy," maintaining the high standards, fresh ingredients, and quality dishes that he began offering on St. Simons years ago. Sal believes that Italians have a true "romance with food," and his love of the red and green remains in place under the new ownership. The pizzas, pastas, salads, and drinks reflect Sal's Italian heritage and family recipes that have been passed down for generations.
