Greetings and welcome to the May 2022 issue of Dateline.
This is a month of celebrations and recognitions. In May, we celebrate Asian Pacific Islander Month and honor teachers, classified employees, school lunch heroes and school nurses. May is also Mental Health Awareness Month. The past two years have placed an emphasis on the importance of our mental health. To that end, the Wellness in Schools Program team in my office has put together some resources for us to access. I encourage you all to prioritize your mental health and wellbeing this month and always. You can’t take care of students or support schools if you aren’t taking care of yourself and your family.
In this issue of Dateline, we highlight some of the professional learning going on to support deeper learning around mental health. Also in this issue, there are numerous online and virtual professional development opportunities for our county’s educators offered during the next few months. Most of these workshops are free and cover a variety of such topics. In addition, you will find valuable resources for educators and students, such as available scholarships and the latest services our county’s libraries are offering.
Please enjoy and share Dateline and the included opportunities with your fellow educators.
Sincerely,
In Community,
Lynn Mackey
Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools
