David & Goliath: The Rock Slinger
and His Greatest Hits

David said, "The LORD, who saved me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will save me from the hand of this Philistine named Goliath." So Saul said to David, "Go, and may the LORD be with you!" ~1Sam 17.37

Dear Friends,

This week is busy at Hosanna with Children's Performing Arts Drama Camp! Over 30 kids are learning about a young boy named David who was not afraid to face the giant enemy Goliath as they rehearse the musical The Rock Slinger and His Greatest Hits. Each morning they are challenged with a new WORD of the day that relates to the 5 smooth stones that David retrieved from the stream:
  • Courage- I will go fight the Philistine! (1Sam 17.32) David was not afraid to face the enemy. It takes courage to fight the giants we face in life.
  • Confidence- The LORD who saved me from the claws of the lion and the bear will save me from the Philistine! (1Sam 17.37) As a shepherd, David often had to protect the sheep from wild animals. This gave him the confidence he needed to face the giant. Do we have confidence that God will help us overcome the problems we face each day?
  • Prepare- David did not go to face the giant unprepared. He went down to the stream and picked up 5 smooth stones and put them in his shepherd's bag. Then, armed with his shepherd's staff and sling, he started out to fight Goliath. (1Sam 17.40). It is important for us to do everything possible to be prepared to face the challenges that we will meet in our daily life. How do you prepare?
  • Trust- David did not trust his own ability to slay the giant. When Goliath shouted at David, cursed him, and was ready to kill him, David said, "You come to me with a sword and spear, but I come to you in the name of the LORD God Almighty." (1Sam 17.45) When you face problems, do you place your trust in God, rather than your own ability?
  • Victory- "It is God's battle, not ours," David said. That is why David was able to win the victory over the giant with only a stone and a sling. (1Sam 17.50) When we turn our battles over to God, we will have the victory over the giants in our life.
You may never face a giant such as Goliath, but we do face giants of another kind in our daily lives. We face giants such as fear, insecurity, loneliness and failure; perhaps you can name your own giant. How can we overcome those giants that want to defeat us? Like David, with courage and confidence, with preparation and trust the victory will be ours. Thanks be to God!

Receiving his diagnosis was life changing for our entire family. As a family we knew we wanted to help others who wore similar shoes as ours. This is where the nonprofit comes in! Raising a child with extraordinary needs is extremely rewarding but also can be draining in many aspects, one of those being financially. As we quickly learned there were so many costly items needed for Christopher to thrive as well as services that medical insurance did not cover. Floor mats, adapted toys, therapy items, and intensive therapy to name a few.  Our goal is to help families alleviate some of the financial stress and make a difference in their child's life.

Thank You & News
Hosanna's Green Earth Team (GET) would like to thank the members and friends of Hosanna who once again have generously supported the recent plant sales.  By purchasing plants, baskets and flowers during the plant sale, and by supporting our local business and church by shopping at Forest Lake Floral and mentioning 'Hosanna' you are encouraging so many people.  Through the support of these programs, Hosanna is moving more and more towards 'best practices' when it comes to caring for God's creation, and by being Good Stewards of God's earth.   Through the plant sale and the community fundraiser, Hosanna has received over $900, which will be used to encourage Hosanna and it's membership in various areas in the quest to become more 'Green.'

MORE news from Hosanna's GET
We recently facilitated an energy evaluation with the goal of reducing Hosann a's energy costs. The GET team is also contributing to a new power protection system designed to better protect Hosanna's computers and other electrical equipment from electrical surges  that have caused damage to this equipment in recent years.
