Huge Crowd for Professor Filippenko's Lecture

A crowd of 330+ (I stopped counting when program began) attended the FREE lecture by Dr. Alex Filippenko, Distinguished Professor of Astronomy at UC Berkeley on Saturday evening. The event was sponsored by Kauai Education Association for Science & Astronomy and the PAC. Dr. Filippenko's topic was the James Webb Space Telescope. Following the talk, KEASA set up six telescopes on the PAC Lawn for the audience to view the planets.

Prof Filippenko's slides on the galaxies.

And the James Webb Space Telescope.

Somehow the word got out...

After the talk, crowd heads to the telescopes!

Good thing KEASA brought 6 telescopes! Woman on right peers at the heavens.

The skies cooperated and great views thrilled the crowd.

Did you know...The Milky Way is 13.61 Billion Years Young...There are an estimated 100 Billion Planetary Systems in the Milky Way...there are Two Trillion observable galaxies in the universe. James Webb Space Telescope is 1 million miles from Earth or farther than Waimea to Ha`ena.

Factoid: There are an estimated 1,743 Performing Arts Center in the U.S. employing 68,500 people...that includes KCC PAC and its one employee.

MILES DAVIS... Have you noticed the beautiful piece of art of Miles Davis in the PAC Lobby? It was a gift from Jason Blake, President of the Kauai Concert Association.

Miles Dewey Davis III (1926-91), was an American trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and considered one of the most influential and acclaimed figures in jazz and 20th century music. Davis was at the forefront of jazz evolution for over 40 years, playing a pivotal role in the development of 1950s cool jazz and moving into modal jazz and funk fusion in later decades.

Factoid: The blues is an American musical genre that originated in the Deep South with African Americans after the Civil War, drawing from work songs, spirituals, and field hollers. It is a vocal-led genre, often using a call-and-response pattern, specific chord progressions (most commonly the twelve-bar form), and distinctive "blue" notes. Today, the blues has heavily influenced modern genres like jazz, rock, and hip-hop.

Cast & Crew of KCP's ROCKY HORROR SHOW

Three Shows: 10/24 @ 7pm & 11:59pm + 10/25 @ 7pm

Arin: This is my first show in 7 years. My passion for theatre died with my teacher. This passion, once dead, has been reignited by my husband. He became a theatre teacher and encouraged me to be passionate again. And a special thank you to Atlas and Karis for making sure that I actually auditioned and got to rehearsals.

Atlas Flynn: excited for his first lead with KCP. He’s been in and around shows since he was a kid and started taking voice lessons at the age of 14. At 18 he moved to New York to attend LIU and study vocal performance. At 20 he transferred to an on line business program and returned home.

BethAnne Kapansky Wright: Is delighted to be choreographer of Rocky. She started dancing when she was 4. Previous credits include the 2020 production of The Rocky Horror Show, Moana Junior, Heathers, Disenchanted, The Sponge Bob Musical, and Something Rotten.

Billy: I LOVE Theatre

Celeste: Thrilled to be part of 50th Anni Rocky Horror Show with an incredible cast and director who made her feel at home. Blending trained vocals with a sprinkle of fun and charm, Celeste has zero acting exp —if she looks confused, that’s just Janet being Janet. Offstage, she’s a nurse practitioner specializing in pain mgt, regenerative medicine.

Colton: has done theatre on Kaua’i for almost 20 yrs. Notable roles across include Sir Robin in Spamalot, Crutchie in Newsies, and Hanschen in Spring Awakening.  Colten has been on Hawai’i Five-O and Magnum P.I., and film in Jungle Cruise.  In addition to acting, Colten teaches improv and stage combat to kids via Hawai’i Children’s Theatre.

Ira Drake: Ira Drake is a full grown human earthling who enjoys playing dress up and singing songs with its friends.

Jenna Cedusky:(Rocky) holds a BA in Theatre from CSUS. Favorite roles include Olivia (Twelfth Night) and Rona (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). She directed She Kills Monsters at KCP. Offstage, Jenna leads chocolate tours on Kauaʻi—where performance meets cacao. She’s thrilled to let loose in The Rocky Horror Show.

Jessica Brown: A Kaua’i resident, long-time theatre lover and lover of Rocky Horror! Back in her HS yrs, she spent every Sat night in the audience screaming obscenities at Brad and Janet. Jessica has enjoyed participating in the theatre scene since she first moved here in 2002. She directed The Gin Game, Kimberly Akimbo and Ripcord, and acted in Noises Off.

Jim Benkert: Although Jim has never formally been on stage, he’s been an enthusiastic theater supporter for decades. 5 yrs ago he told Jennifer that if she didn’t cast him in Rocky Horror, he’d be the most obnoxious fan in the audience. So she created the role of “obnoxious audience heckler”. Now he’s back to reprise his role.

Ka’eo Hoffman: Ladies & gents, boys and girls. Stepping into the spotlight to mesmerize the audience with their dazzling performance is Kāʻeo Hoffman. This is not his first appearance on stage and he is ready to flash the crowd his notorious splits and spread eagle. So be on a look out for this diva of a phantom!

Karis: This is my third show on island, and I am so excited to dive even deeper into the community and continue to branch out. Rocky is a funky show that has certainly asked us to branch out of our comfort zone, which I am delighted to plunge myself into. Thank you all coming! Stay weird ;)

Kate Kenney: British-born and is no stranger to the stage. Her parents met at an amateur theatre group in London (she acted, he was the lighting designer!), and Kate’s 1st career was Stage Mgr for the National Opera Company in the UK. Host of The Kate Kenney Show #Unfiltered podcast - a top 10% global podcast

Killian: I am so excited to be apart of the Kaua’i Community Players production of The Rocky Horror Show. Be sure to clap extra hard for Columbia’s tap break.

Margaret: Tap!

Mary: This is my first show with KCP and I’m excited to be a part of this cast. I haven’t been in a show since high school choir but here I am stepping out of my comfort zone. I want to thank my family for supporting this fun endeavor. Break a leg!!

Parker Hoffman: It took a lot of money to look this cheap…
