David Miller to Return as Executive Trustee
Current IMRF Trustee David Miller is unopposed in seeking a new five-year term of office. Miller's new term will begin January 1, 2022, and run through December 31, 2026.

Miller has served on the Board since 2015 and was Board President in 2020. He currently chairs the Investment Committee and serves on the Benefit Review Committee. He is the Executive Director of the North Shore Water Reclamation District, the second-largest wastewater treatment operation in Illinois.

“I’m honored to return for a second term as an Executive Trustee,” Miller said. “I look forward to continuing to support the organization in accomplishing its vision of providing the highest quality retirement services to our members and employers.”

Why does IMRF Perform Compliance Reviews?
By performing compliance reviews, IMRF can assist employers in understanding and administering IMRF benefits according to the Illinois Pension Code. Performing compliance reviews is considered a best practice for public pension funds. 

To help you understand and prepare for a compliance review, our web site explains IMRF’s compliance review process, including tools, resources, and best practices that could help prevent compliance findings.  

How are employers selected for compliance reviews? 
Every December IMRF selects which employers will be reviewed in the following year. We consider several factors such as:

  • The date of an employer’s last IMRF compliance review
  • Field Representative territory
  • Type and size of employer 

The IMRF Board of Trustees approves the number of employer compliance reviews we perform each year. IMRF reviews approximately 200 employers a year. 

We are here to help you 
Our compliance team will involve you at every stage of the review, so you understand what is being done and why. The most successful employer compliance reviews happen when the employer and the IMRF Employer Compliance team have a collaborative working relationship.

National Retirement Security Month
National Retirement Security Month is an annual effort to raise public awareness about the importance of saving for retirement. Taking place in October, this event provides an opportunity for your employees to reflect on their personal retirement goals.

The National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators (NAGDCA) organization has published videos to help your employees consider how to prepare for their retirement. An IMRF pension is a great start, but all members will also need personal savings. Share these videos with your employees to help them think about where they are in their retirement journey: 


Wherever your employees are on their retirement journey, IMRF Voluntary Additional Contributions (VAC) are a powerful savings vehicle.
