David Newman Concert Tomorrow Night!
Yoga Tip of the Week
Tuesdays in Annapolis

Hello, for some of you it has been a moment since I have seen you. I am on the road and our paths have missed this summer. I am keeping with the pulse of the studio and reaching out to you all as we are making yet another shift and your continued support will be greatly appreciated.

We are making a shift with pricing at the studio. We are going to Karma Kards for the studio. As those of you know we have had many shifts with the studio.  Our expansion has in many ways been to support the community. We have more classes than ever, we have more teachers, and more amenities in the studio. Keeping this in mind support must be raised up. Our teachers must be taken care of, our bills must be paid and with that we have to become more consistent with our income.

Karma Kards will be used for classes. This means that there will be cards to be purchased that will range from 5, 10 and 20 class card. The cards will expire in a month, two months and three months according to the amount of classes used.

To support the community we will also adapt two things, first we will have a first time in state yogi option to do 30 days for 30$ unlimited yoga. I will also support the community by having my classes as donation based classes. This will allow all yogis the space to find the class that fits their particular needs.

I thank each of you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you on the mat. Keep spreading the word as our community is forever growing. We are here for you.

Peace,

Sid

Kirtan Concert - David Newman with Mira
This Saturday, July 9, 7-8:30pm

david newman & mira

As Yoga continues to spread its wings in America, a component of the ancient tradition is emerging as part of the new spiritual music movement. It is called Kirtan! A Kirtan is a group gathering where sacred mantras are sung together in a call and response style. It is a unique concert setting where music and singing are treated as meditation and the audience is as much a part of the band as the band members themselves.

David Newman is a widely recognized chant artist and sacred musician who travels throughout the world singing Kirtan chants and offering workshops on the healing power of sound. His music embodies a devotional mysticism, distinctive musicality, poetic intimacy and a deep respect for India's ancient chant tradition.

"David is reminiscent of George Harrison, Dylan and Paul Simon

when they are in soul mode." --LA Yoga Magazine

Twisted Triangle Pose (Parivrtta Trikonasana)

twisted triangle

This deep twisting posture wrings out toxins from your digestive organs and releases the lumbar spine.  It also stretches your hamstrings, groin, and hips and opens your chest and shoulders. While challenging your balance and concentration, twisting triangle coordinates your body into one unified force.

 Proper Alignment

  • From Triangle Pose (right foot in front), bring your back foot up (about 3-4 ft. away from your front foot) and turn your back foot to a 45-degree angle. Both heels should be in one straight line
  • Square your hips to the wall in front of you
  • Raise your arms over head and inhale
  • Fold forward over your front leg as you exhale, drop your left hand outside of your right foot and raise your right arm straight up.
  • Engage your abdominal lock: pull your navel to your spine.
  • Pull your right hip back and press your left hip forward to keep your hips squared.
  • Keep your back heel anchored down and press your thighs together.
  • Line up your arms along a vertical plane and extend through your fingertips.
  • Stack your torso over your front leg.
  • As you inhale, lengthen your spine and stretch through the crown of your head.
  • As you exhale, twist your torso upward and stretch your chest toward your chin. (Make sure to twist from your torso, not your shoulders)
  • Drishti: Gaze up toward you raised thumb (or down at the ground if this bothers your neck).
Maintain powerful legs throughout this posture. The stronger your lower body, the more extension and the deeper the twist you will have in your upper body.
