Exciting news about David Uhl's Sturgis pieces this year (the final images are below) ...for this 85th anniversary celebration, we've partnered with BlackFork Farms, a 6th generation family farm in South Dakota which produces bourbon that many Sturgis attendees will be familiar with.

We are offering an optional art/bourbon package with David's three Sturgis commemorative pieces this year. If you've already ordered the artwork and want to add the bourbon, please let us know.

The bottle is an additional $100.

Their bourbon is double pot distilled. Aged five years in air-dried American oak.

TASTING NOTES: a full-bodied bourbon with a soft nose and flavor profile that is a mix of honey and light oak. A long soft finish, with lingering hints of vanilla and oak.

David will be attending a tasting at West River Whiskey in Deadwood, where the bourbon is sold, during the Rally. Details forthcoming.

As David recently stated, "Painting motorcycle related artwork has taken me in many directions! In order to keep my interest and love of the genre, I’m compelled to explore new territories. It is always a challenge to find a fresh take on the space. I have always admired the great American painters who have focused on the beautiful western art themes, so I thought I would give it a go.

This will be my Sturgis 85th Anniversary commemorative featuring the Indian motorcycle for this year.

As usual, I’m in love with what time and nature does with paint and metal".

David's take on this one - "based on an early Jackpine Gypsy rider. He’s stopping to assist a stranded farm girl and her overheated pickup.

When painting these pieces, I start pretty loose with big brushes and then zero in to detail the important areas… I guess my question is always how much I can leave of the original sketchy brushwork?

I seem to find myself loving the “unfinished" bold strokes as opposed to the rendered-out areas. A happy balance?

In David's words, "My dad had a Ford Econoline van for most of my younger years, anytime we would go on one of his trips he would load up the back with a mattress and sheets for all of us kids. I remember waking up and opening the back doors to some of the most beautiful scenery Michigan had to offer. My dad's van was pretty basic, and I was always disappointed he didn’t have one of those Airbrushed mural, waterbed equipped customs back then.

Of course, I’ll always remember the music. I’m sorry to do this to you, but it just fits so perfectly to call this “Dream Weaver” by Gary Wright. (I’m sure you’ll have no trouble getting that song out of your head for the rest of the day). So, I just replaced the Michigan scenery with the Black Hills and imagined what was going on up in Sturgis for the 70s and 80s. I'll have a better image once the painting is scanned. Oil on linen."
