What is a Social District? An area where people can walk with open, to-go containers of alcoholic beverages sold by a participating business in a contiguous area.

Keep in mind: A Social District does NOT mean you can bring alcoholic beverages from home and walk around with them! They must be purchased from participating restaurants and bars.

Social District Hours: Monday-Sunday from 11am to 10pm

Visit the CW website to find out what it all means and plan to visit Downtown Concord soon to experience it for yourself.

Guardian Keepers of Children Advocates for Hope

Contributor: Jamie Richardson

Guardian Keepers of Children’s mission is to empower Guardian ad Litem volunteers through training, recruiting, and retention as they advocate for and assist children dealing with abuse or neglect.

What is the primary responsibility of a Guardian ad Litem (GAL)? To advocate on behalf of the child. In Cabarrus County, there are 33 GAL volunteers serving 220 foster children.

What Volunteers Are Saying: When I started volunteering, I thought I only wanted early childhood foster children. Then, I volunteered for twin freshmen boys in High School. Their humor, resilience, and determination to overcome their trauma were inspiring. Their teachers, counselors, and I witnessed a positive difference in their attitudes and demeanor as they progressed socially, emotionally, and academically. – Carol Hendry
