Remarks by Metropolitan Borys Gudziak at Davos Ukrainian Breakfast 2023

Ukraine is now an epicenter of global change – political, diplomatic, military, economic, ecological, and agricultural. But there is something even more important. It is an epicenter of anthropological reflections. It is a place that is forcing us to ask the question of what it means to be human. Our humanity is our life. Our life is framed by death. And it is where we answer the question of what is life and what is death so that we understand who we are.

Перед нами переломний момент в історії людства. Україна веде. Україна веде Президента Зеленського. Важливо пам’ятати, що президент Зеленський пішов за народом України, який був на Майдані під час революції на граніті 1990 року, на Помаранчевому Майдані 2004 року, на Євромайдані та Революції Гідності 2013-2014 років, за військовими, які були на фронті з 2014 року. Вони вже бачили. Вони знали. Вони діяли. І вони жертвували собою.

I dream of a Ukraine which gives life to many children, where children are welcome, and where children are free.

I dream of a country that continues to give bread to Africa and to the Middle East.

I dream of a country that is not number three or four among the computer outsources but is number one or two.

I dream of a country all of you would want to visit.

I dream of a country that begins singing again and teaches the world to sing.

I dream of a country where people emerging out of this with solidarity, really look at each other face to face and say “We want to live personally, not only virtually”.

I dream of a country that helps to change the world.

And I think that the beginning is there.

Я мрію про Україну, яка дає життя багатьом дітям, де ними радіють і де вони вільні.

Я мрію про країну, яка продовжує давати хліб Африці та Близькому Сходу.

Я мрію про країну, яка займатиме не третє чи четверте місце серед країн IT-аутсорситнгу, а буде номером один чи два.

Я мрію про країну, яку б ви хотіли відвідати.

Я мрію про країну, яка знову заспіває і навчить співати світ.

Я мрію про країну, де люди, які виходять із цієї ситцації такими солідарними, подивляться один одному у вічі і скажуть: «Ми хочемо жити особисто, а не лише віртуально».

Я мрію про країну, яка допоможе змінити світ.

І я думаю, що це вже почалося

Life’s Counterstrike – A Message from Ukraine’s Liberated Territories

«Території звільняють для того, щоби визволити людей. І найважливіше запитання зараз: “Яким чином люди зможуть відновитися?”. Травма, яка спричинена такою поведінкою росіян, є дуже глибокою. Я син батьків, які пережили радянську окупацію, з 1939 по 1941 рік, були під німецькою окупацією. Протягом декількох років були біженцями. Вони приїхали зі США до незалежної України, де сім мільйонів людей було вбито. І я знаю з їхнього досвіду, що відновитися можна. Україні потрібен план відбудови схожий на “план Маршала”. Ми не можемо собі дозволити бути переможеними втомою».
