Day 11, May 1: Understanding Reparations -
Part 1
Although we are in the midst of a nationwide conversation about reparations, this is not a new topic in our country.

Today we're exploring the history of reparations and how past efforts to compensate those who have suffered injustices have fallen woefully short of addressing the damage that has been done.

  • Article: This article unpacks the history of reparations in the U.S., including monetary redress for the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

  • Video: This video gives an overview of the history of reparations worldwide and information about the status of reparations for Black Americans.

  • Spotlight: Read more about U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee's introduction of HB-40 to the current legislature. We’ll be getting an update on this bill from co-sponsor U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky at our upcoming Equity Summit. (Learn more and register for the Equity Summit here.)

We invite you to download and print our 21-Day Reflection Journal and capture your reflections after each challenge. Feel free to encourage your friends and family to join in this challenge by signing up at www.ywca-ens.org/21-day-challenge.
