Support Students Experiencing Homelessness
Day 13: Let's take care of each other. In the 2018-2019 school year, Chicago Public Schools reported serving approximately 16,451 students who experienced housing insecurity throughout the school year. We're challenging your family to think about what home means to you. Watch this video about Allia, a 10 year old from New York City, and learn about how she experiences learning from home at a shelter.

Staying home looks different for everyone. For youth and families experiencing homelessness, stay at home orders pose difficult obstacles to getting needed resources like internet for school. Today, we're tackling the ways that we can support youth and families experiencing homelessness as a community.
Let's Talk
After watching Allia's video, use the questions below to kick-start a great conversation with your family:

  • What stood out to you about Allia's story?

  • How is your experience learning from home? What has been good about learning remotely? What has been challenging?

  • Why is your home important to you? What are your favorite things to do at home?

  • Bonus! Take some time today to thank a teacher. Teaching from home is new for them too. We're thankful for all they do to help us continue our education safely.

Our partners at Casa Central are currently supporting 22 families at the La Posada Interim Housing site, while they look for stable homes. Families are looking for fun ways to get creative and stay busy while inside.

Send your completed coloring pages, mazes or word searches to Breeze. We will compile your pages to make an activity book for the families at Casa Central to enjoy!
Honeycomb in the news! Your hard work and community involvement have created quite the buzz. Tune in to Fox32 today at 9:30 am to celebrate how YOU are impacting Chicagoans across the city through Honeycomb at Home.
Community Connections
Resource Awareness
Share resource awareness with your community. Help spread awareness about the Economic Impact Payment to people with low-incomes and people who are experiencing homelessness. The Economic Impact Payment can be an important resource to people who may be struggling financially during this time. There are important steps people need to take to access this resource!

Help spread awareness to people in your community by posting these multi-lingual flyers in your neighborhood, in your windows, or posting images on social media. If you are posting flyers on your block, please limit your time outside, wear gloves and a mask, and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Raising awareness can help connect people to resources in this time of need.

Thank you to the Johnson-Ware family for sharing this project with Honeycomb and inspiring families to connect people with necessary resources!
Our city needs your support! By purchasing some of our Honeycomb at Home loungewear, you help us spread the magic of volunteering throughout our city. Every $100 we raise provides free programming to a new local family. We so appreciate your support. Order now!
