Last April, Juan Benito Espinal visited Shepherd of the Hills to share about his ministry in Nicaragua. I had first met Juan Benito and other pastors from his church community through video conference calls. Then, during his visit to SOTH, I was given the privilege of serving as his Spanish interpreter during a Lenten service and on a Sunday morning.
Juan Benito does not speak English, and I admit that I felt nervous and apprehensive as I stood at the front of the church. But in that moment, I became deeply aware of God’s presence. As I interpreted Juan Benito’s words, I knew with absolute certainty that God was speaking — not just through him, but through me as well.
It was a powerful and humbling experience. I left those services with a profound sense of gratitude for how God had worked through my voice, my skills, and my willingness to say yes. It reminded me that when we offer ourselves to God, even with trembling hands, He is faithful to use us for His glory.
That experience continues to shape my faith, and it has opened the door for me to serve more deeply in God’s work beyond our walls. I am thankful for a church that listens for God’s call and rejoices when His work is made visible among us.
When we step forward in faith, God is glorified — and His presence becomes unmistakably clear.
