Christina works very hard on her business putting in about 20 hours per week on top of school and extra-curricular activities.
“There are days she doesn’t even make 5 dollars per hour but still works hard. She is passionate about what she is doing and enjoys it,” her mom, Angie said. “We are extremely proud of her for the leader she is becoming and the role model she is for her siblings and other kids in the community.”
Christina’s Creations Bakery is quickly becoming a Huron staple and a great community partner. The company often donates cookies and time to fundraising events and organizations in the area including Young Life and St. Peter Catholic Church. And, if they don’t have the capacity to do an order, Angie will gladly help a customer find someone who can do it.
In August, the company received the Minority Business Empowerment Team Startup Scholarship, a grant facilitated by ECEDC & RISE and awarded to new minority-owned businesses in Erie County. With the funds from the scholarship, Christina and Angie were able to purchase an edible printer which significantly decreases the time it takes to decorate cookies. Previously, it would take almost six minutes to do an intricate design on just one cookie. Now, they can print the same design on 12 cookies in less than 10 minutes. Not only can this increase the number of cookies they can make per order, but they have a higher capacity to take on last-minute cookie orders depending on the design request.
