Stride Mobility
A one-of-a-kind facility
Mark Schnieders knows all about being an entrepreneur. In the past 12 years he's successfully opened and managed 2 small businesses - Safe Harbor Insurance Agency and Stride Mobility. He began his career in medical equipment and pharmaceutical sales. That journey, along with the economic uncertainty in 2008, led him to open Safe Harbor Insurance Agency and ultimately Stride Mobility four years later, in 2012. Stride Mobility is a family-owned Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Company that specializes in customized complex rehab wheelchairs. Mark's time in insurance showed him the need for a provider of custom wheelchairs, scooters, and adaptive seating to meet individuals unique physical and lifestyle needs. “These aren’t your everyday wheelchairs you see going down a hospital hallway” says Mark. "We provide customized, state of the art, detailed wheelchairs for each individual."
After six years of growth, Stride Mobility and its 15 employees have outgrown their 4,000 square foot retail space and are building for their future. In September 2020, they broke ground on a new location on Sawmill Parkway in Huron. The new 14,000 square foot facility, constructed by Hoty Enterprises and designed by Poulos and Schmid Design Group, will house a showroom, warehouse, service department, and room for their growing team. The highlight of the new building is a 4,000 square foot showroom - a retail space with various types and levels of wheelchairs, power scooters, lift chairs and more. But not just for shopping, this one-of-a-kind facility will also include a mock set-up of a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen and even an indoor and outdoor maneuverability course to trial equipment. Since most houses aren't wheelchair accessible, having these model rooms and maneuverability courses are a critical tool for successfully designing the right wheelchair or scooter for each person's needs. Supporting other local entrepreneurs and businesses was important to Mark and Corso’s Flower and Garden Center will design the landscaping and outdoor maneuverability course, and work from Brady Signs will help take of advantage of their new St. Rt. 2 visibility in the Huron industrial park.

Stride Mobility employees have a clinical background, which sets them apart from competition and your average retail. With 3 Occupational Therapists (OT), a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA), and a Registered Nurse (RN) on staff, they are able to design a wheelchair based on each individual’s needs. They not only design but are also equipped to service your wheelchair or scooter, and in most cases travel to the customer to do so. Stride Mobility serves children and adults by working in coordination with home care, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, hospitals, and private individuals.
This new building will also make home for Safe Harbor Insurance Agency, established in 2008 as a local independent agency for home, auto, life and commercial insurance. This business too realizes not everyone has the same needs and therefore provides an individualized approach to each and every customer. The 19 employees with Stride & Safe Harbor look forward to completion of the new facility in spring of 2021.
