First Day of Surgeries

Our buses left the hotel bright and early today to try and beat the traffic. The journey can range from 30 minutes to over an hour depending on the day. Today's agenda will include 7 surgeries (4 adults and 3 pediatric.) Once the work day concludes we have a appetizing meal at Crepes & Waffles. CAMTA has made this a dinner stop for close to 20 years.

Meet Jose Manuel Castillo Gudino

When Jose Manuel Castillo Gudino was just over 30 years old he was in a motorcycle accident that left him unable to walk. Now at age 33 he is getting surgery on his hip.

After 2 years of not walking his first steps were a little unsteady, each step was a triumph of resilience and hope. Jose has been extremely upbeat and positive. As he was doing the physiotherapy exercises he was making us all laugh with his jokes.

A special thank you to CAMTA member Sofia Achang who did all the translating during the exercises putting Jose at ease.

Once he has fully recovered Jose is most looking forward to being more independent.

Some Ties Can't be Broken- This is One of Them

Ryan Wright Family Physician and Andrei Nicolay Salas Mino have a very special bond. From the moment they met you could see their connection. In 2020 Andrei had first come to CAMTA and the friendship began. This year when Andrei saw Ryan it was pure happiness. Click on the video above to see the photos.

Making time for fun

CAMTA has been embarking in a long tradition of Rock Paper Scissors. Each CAMTA member plays at least one match. The matches are a best of three. It's a quick way to have a break and a laugh.

In this photo you will see Kelty Ennis (left) beating Olivia Vincent.

Alex Yandri Cajamarca Yupanqui is the little trooper who just had clubfoot bilateral surgery.

Alex Yandri Cajamarca Yupanqui had previously been treated with casts to try and correct his club feet. This was unsuccessful and now he has come to CAMTA where a bilateral clubfoot surgery was performed.

Prior to surgery Alex was not able to stand for longer than 5 minutes.

Surgery went well and now his recovery starts. When Alex is fully recovered his family is looking forward to see him playing again. They will be overjoyed to see him standing on his own. They now feel hopeful and grateful.
