Pet Therapy
Day 4 The power of pets. We know Honeycomb families LOVE helping animals, but did you know that animals help us too? Check out how dogs can help older adults in this clip featuring our partner Chicago Methodist Senior Services . Pet therapy is fun for people and pups!

Pets are the perfect companions to help us stay social and bring joy to our lives every day. Pet visits can have physical and emotional benefits for everyone, but especially older adults who may be feeling isolated. Watch the video to see how pet visits at CMSS help to keep spirits high and remind seniors about all the pets that they've loved in their lives. Pets have super powers!
Let's Talk
After watching the video about the pet visits with older adults use the questions below to kick-start a great conversation with your family:

  • What stood out to you about how pets and seniors interacted during the pet visits?

  • Do you have pets or special animals in your life? What's your favorite thing about your pet?

  • Pets bring people so much joy and help us when we're feeling down. How can we give back to animals who do so much for us?

Community Connections
Pet Party
Let's spread the puppy love! If you have a pet, we hope you'll share your pet with your community. Everybody loves a good pet video or goofy pet pic. Can you come up with creative ways to capture your pet in action? Dress up your dog and strike a pose, make an obstacle course for your cat and film them having fun, can your goldfish tell a joke? Show us your pet doing their best trick!

We're challenging you to share your pet with FIVE people in your community. Send pictures to a friend, videos to your neighbor, or video chat your grandparents with your favorite furry friend. Your pet may bring a smile to someone who needs it!
Be sure to tag #honeycombathome and #thehoneycombproject in your social posts.

While many people are spending more time at home, some have extra time to foster or adopt! Many shelters have waitlists for foster families, but are always looking to place animals in their forever homes. Check out the websites of our partners One Tail at a Time , The Anti-Cruelty Society , and Tree House Humane Society to learn more about how you can help.

Chef Du Jour
Volunteer Coordinator, Joanna, called her grandma, Teta Narges, to share this recipe with us! Joanna says that this food is what her family always shares at gatherings. Now, making it on her own is a way for her to reconnect with her family when she can't be with them. Try Joanna's favorite comfort food, her Teta Narges's Macarona Bechamel as described by Teta Narges herself.

Joanna's favorite part about leading Honeycomb events is getting to bring people together towards a cause. She loves learning from the multigenerational groups, especially the kids! You can find Joanna at a coffee shop, listening to music, reading at home or playing with her dog when she's not at Honeycomb!
