Share One Word with Your Team and Others
Ever since Dan Britton, Jimmy Page and I wrote One Word that Will Change Your Life years ago, we've heard incredible stories of impact from countless people, schools, sports teams and companies that have discovered the power of One Word. Several college teams put their One Words on their lockers and practice shirts. NFL and NBA teams chose their words for the season and talked about them before games. Schools made t-shirts with all their teacher's One Words. Hendrick BMW even made a One Word car where they put all the words of the team members on a car for everyone to see each day.
I've discovered that One Word is not only a powerful tool for individuals but it is also great exercise for teams to do together. When each member of a team knows their word and lives it, the team becomes a powerful collective force of purpose and positive energy.
Take Action
Share the power of One Word with your Team. It could be your family, work team, church team, sports team, or a group of friends.
Have each person on the team choose a word and then share with the group why they chose it. It's the why behind the word that gives it meaning and purpose. One Word is a powerful team building exercise that develops a team bond. As you learn about each person's word and why these chose it, you form a greater connection and commitment to each other. After everyone on the team shares their word you can create a tangible reminder such as a poster with all your words, a word cloud picture, or even a One Word car. : ) Here are a few pictures of what some teams have done to keep their words front and center.
