Driving Lessons
Day 55: Family feeling. The essence of who we are is formed when we are young, surrounded by the people closest to us. Celebrated author and activist Alex Haley wrote "In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future." Our family’s actions, values, and words teach us about the world and ourselves.

Today, we're inviting your family to explore how your upbringing has impacted who you are today. Watch this heartfelt video about Mohammad Ashraf Faridi and the life lessons his son Muhammad learned from the passenger's seat of his dad's taxi cab.

This video was produced by  StoryCorps , an audio recording organization dedicated to preserving and sharing humanity's stories in order build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world. We love their inspiring work!
Let's Talk
After watching Driving Lessons use the questions below to kick-start a great conversation with your family:

  • What stood out to you about Mohammad and Muhammad's story? What made you smile?

  • How would you describe your family's values? What are some of the lessons you learned from your parents?

  • What was most challenging about your childhood? What did you learn about yourself through these experiences?

  • Bonus! Do you have a family mantra? Create one together today and post it in your home for everyone to see!

Do Something
Who do you appreciate? We've all need extra support from our family and friends during these difficult times. Who has been supporting you? Why do you appreciate their support?

Make a list of all the people in your family near and far. Under each person, write down why you appreciate them. How have they helped you? Why is their support important to you?

Once you've completed your list, consider sharing your gratitude with your family members. Letting them know you appreciate them is an important way to show support back!
