DAY 7 LESSON
Rewire Your Brain from Negative to Positive
As we come to a close on the 7 Day One Word Challenge, it's time to focus on living out your word for the year. As you do, it's important to live with intention so that you can overcome the negativity and challenges you will face. A good place to start is rewiring your brain from negative to positive!
Instead of listening to the negative thoughts, feed yourself with the positive words of encouragement.
Dr. James Gills accomplished the remarkable feat of completing two triathlons back to back. Most of the world, including me, couldn't complete one triathlon, never mind two. Yet, Dr. James Gills, a man in his fifties, was able to complete a double triathlon six times.
When asked how he did it, he gave the best advice I've ever heard.
He said, "I’ve learned to talk to myself instead of listen to myself."
He continued, "If I listen to myself I hear all the reasons why I should give up. I hear that I'm too tired-too old-too weak to make it. But if I talk to myself I can give myself the encouragement and words I need to hear to keep running and finish the race."
It's the same way with life.
Too often we listen to ourselves and hear all the complaints, self-doubt, fear, and negativity that lead to unhappiness, failure and unfulfilled goals.
But instead of listening to the negative we can choose to feed ourselves with the positive. We can fuel up with words, thoughts, phrases, scripture and beliefs that give us the strength and power to overcome our challenges and create an extraordinary life, career and team.
There is greatness inside of you. You were never meant to be average.
It’s time to overcome the limiting beliefs that are holding you back.
TAKE ACTION
Take out a sheet of paper. On the left side, write down your negative thoughts… those limiting beliefs that are holding you back. You know what they are. The negative voices that pop into your head. The voices of fear and doubt that are sometimes bold but other times disguised as justifications.
Now, on the right side of the paper, write down positive words of encouragement that you will say to counteract the negative.
Example…
I am too old. >>>> There’s no better time than now.
Why me? >>>> Why not me! I’m worthy. I’m made for this.
What if I fail? >>>> What if I succeed?
I’m scared. >>>> My purpose is greater than my challenges.
I don’t have enough time. >>>> If it’s important I’ll find a way.
