1826 Photographic
A picture perfect building for a picture perfect business

Jamie Speer, owner, and head photographer of 1826 Photographic, was born and raised in Sandusky, Ohio. She graduated from The University of Toledo in 2006 with a degree in New Media with a focus on graphic design, web design, and photography. Fresh out of college, she moved back to her beloved hometown and in 2007 Jamie started her photography business - 1826 Photographic. Did you know the world’s first lasting photograph was taken by Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1826? Coincidence? Not at all. Jamie says that's one of the reasons for picking the name for her business.
Located on Hayes Ave in Sandusky, Jamie ran her business out of a cozy little studio for 7 years. It really only had one room I could use, she recalls. "I had to set up and tear down sets all the time." Fast forward to today where Jamie now operates 1826 out of a brand new 2,100 square foot building with 26' ceilings, that she and Josh Fox, architect at Poulos + Schmid Design Group, designed. She wanted an open look and welcoming feel when you walk through the doors. The fully customizable studio has several spacious areas perfect for their various sets so they can be set up and ready to go at all times. A separate workspace located upstairs is where Jamie and her co-worker and Associate Photographer, Lindsey Lemons, edit their thousands of pictures and hold client consultations.

Construction for the new building located at 3406 Hayes Ave, right next door to her previous location, began in 2019 and her scheduled move in was March 2020 – right when the world was shutting down due to COVID-19. "My dream was coming true, and I couldn't even go see it” she remembers. She officially opened May 1, 2021. While Jamie wasn’t able to have a grand opening or customer appreciation events, she still kept her great attitude and bubbly personality. Because so many people were desperate for something “normal” since prom and weddings were being cancelled, they turned to 1826 to capture normal life moments like family and senior pictures. "Senior pictures took off!" Jamie said. She also recalled that she hadn't had a wedding-free summer since starting her business in 2007. Summer 2020 was anything but ordinary and Jamie and Lindsey had to adapt, doing more outside photoshoots and wearing masks while indoors to protect their clients. "We weren't able to work for 5 months and we still had our largest year!"
