2024 marks the 41st year of Daybreak’s operations in the Midlands of South Carolina. This coming May will mark three years since I was asked to assume the role of Executive Director by the Daybreak Board of Directors. For the previous six years, I had served as a member of the Board, the last five of those as the Board Chair. So, for over 9 years, it has been my privilege to serve in varying capacities within this wonderful ministry.
When I first joined the Board, Daybreak was housed in a very “humble” location on Hampton Street. It was a serviceable location, but it had its limitations. Then a generous donor with an expanded vision for the ministry found a building that had great strategic potential, and that donor bought the building for Daybreak! A minor and modest upfit was performed, and in the fall of 2016, Daybreak took occupancy. It is that location from which we serve our clients today. Members of the Daybreak team – staff, board members, and volunteers – have come and gone, but the mission has remained the same: we are here to share the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all who might be facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies. You are receiving this newsletter because you have joined with us in this effort, and we are so grateful for you.
In that vein of thought, we have a request of you. Our annual banquet – Daybreak’s principal fundraising activity for the year – will be May 16th. It will be held at the beautiful Pastides Alumni Center of the University of South Carolina, and our keynote speaker for the evening is Dr. Albert Mohler Jr.! For many, Dr. Mohler is a well-known name. He serves as the President of Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and he is the host of a daily podcast called “The Briefing”, where he tackles many of the toughest social issues of our day from the vantage point of a Christian worldview. He is also one of the leading and most articulate voices for the support of preborn life in our world. That we would have a speaker of Dr. Mohler’s caliber is no small blessing, so we want as many folks as possible to attend.
To secure a venue like the USC Alumni Center is no small investment, but we wanted a special venue for our donors. At the same time, however, we don’t want to price attendance out of the reach of any who would like to attend, so we want to place a bold challenge before our donor community… Would you consider sponsoring a table so that others might be able to attend the event without any financial obligation beyond that which they might make as a gift to Daybreak? Your willingness to “purchase a table” would allow you to invite friends and associates who might be then freed up to give more generously to the work of Daybreak. Plus, having all the tables sold in advance of the event would free Daybreak from concerns about the cost of the event.
