Public Visioning Survey


As we design De Soto and update the City’s Strategic Plan, one way we're gathering citizen input is through monthly online surveys.

Traffic Signals @ Kill Creek & 83rd


Last week, contracted engineers implemented a new timing pattern on the traffic signals at 83rd & Kill Creek. The work to create a better solution for drivers in all directions continues next week when we install the new controller and motion-detection cameras.

First Brush Site of the Season


The first open brush site of the season is Saturday, April 1st from 8am-noon! The site is open every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month until the fall, and you must be a De Soto resident to use the amenity.


Allowed: limbs, leaves, biodegradable lawn bags

Not allowed: mulch, construction waste, concrete

City Council Meeting Recap

The De Soto City Council held its regularly-scheduled meeting last night, March 16th, at City Hall. View the agenda here. Here is a quick run-down:


  • Approved Ordinance No. 2569 annexing park land into city
  • Approved an agreement with Johnson County regarding 103rd St. right of way
  • Approved the purchase of sewer pumps for the treatment plant
  • Approved bid for the City Hall generator project
  • Approved task order with PEC for Riverfest Park topography and boundary survey
  • Tabled Ordinance No. 2570 regarding text amendment for solar ordinance for revisions regarding permit term and designated area boundary
  • Approved Ordinance No. 2571 regarding rezoning at the Northeast Corner of Ottawa Street and Lexington Ave from C-2 to R-3
  • Approved Resolution No. 2006 to revise park impact fees and impact fee for irrigation meters

Toddler Time


Starting next Wednesday, bring your little ones to our brand new fun-filled program, Toddler Time! We've got tons of toys and equipment, including slides and tunnels, so your little ones are sure to have a blast!


  • Every Wednesday from 3/22 - 4/26
  • 8:30am-10:30am
  • De Soto Community Center
  • $1 per child
  • Guardian required to stay with child

Senior Activities


Starting March 27th, we're offering games and bingo in the Senior Center! These free senior activities are from 9am-11:30am every Monday & Wednesday.

Development & Construction

103rd Street Potholing


Construction prep has begun south of K-10; until the end of April, KDOT contractors are potholing along 103rd Street from Evening Star Road to 95th Street.


  • What are they doing? “Potholing,” which is an investigative construction method of drilling exploratory holes in the rights-of-way to precisely locate current utilities
  • Why are they doing this? To plan for the potential relocation of utilities as they prepare to widen 103rd Street
  • Is 103rd be closed completely right now? No, but there will be one lane closed. Flaggers will be in place, and only one section of road will be done at a time
  • What section is being done first? Evening Star Rd to Astra Parkway
  • What time will work take place every day, weather permitting? 7am - 5pm
