The College Career & Military Readiness and Counseling Support

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and Students:

The DeSoto ISD College & Career Readiness and Counseling Team created a plan to ensure students’ future readiness during the immediate and indefinite closure of DeSoto ISD schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
Students should complete a survey to assess how to assess their future readiness needs. In addition, we are providing resources to support students’ college, career and military matriculation process. Your student will be assigned to a DeSoto ISD staff person who will ensure the district addresses all wellness and future readiness needs as identified in the above-mentioned survey.

Students in grades 9-12 will complete the 9-12 Grade Wellness + College, Career & Military Readiness Survey.

If your student needs any additional support with his or her wellness and/or post-secondary plans, please direct an email to your student’s designated staff person.

Please see below for additional resources or   9-12 Grade Wellness + College, Career & Military Readiness Survey .

For more information and updates, follow the DeSoto High School GO Center Instagram account(@desotohsgocenter) and the DeSoto ISD LETS GEAR UP Instagram account (@desotogearup) as well as all other District social media and communication channels.

Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time.

Sincerely,
DeSoto ISD College, Career & Military Readiness and Counseling Team
Technology
Elementary device distribution will occur today, Wednesday, April 1 from 1 - 4 PM at different locations, depending on schools that the families attend. Families/students prioritized for device distribution have received a personalized email with their code and where to go to pick-up their devices. Additionally, devices will be provided to secondary schools to continue to distribute, as needed, to families who may not have filled out the form but do have true device need.
Child Nutrition
April 1 marks the opening of three additional meal service locations. In addition to opening more meal distribution sites, the food service governing agencies have relaxed the rule that students must be present to receive meals.

Students no longer have to be present with a parent during meal distribution if the parent can provide any of the following verification methods to staff at the distribution site:

  • Official letter/email/electronic school application from school listing children enrolled
  • Individual student report cards
  • Attendance record from parent portal of the school website, printed or electronic, that includes the name(s) of the child(ren)
  • Birth certificates for children not in school
  • Student ID cards

The packaged meals will be distributed in a drive-thru fashion, so no one will need to exit their personal vehicles, but all participating children must be present, or in the vehicle. Children do not have to be a student at the campus to qualify for the meal. Meals are served by door access, sometimes on the side of the building so keep an eye out for tables set up outside. Free meals for children 18 and under are available at these locations:

DeSoto High School - Freshman Side
Cockrell Hill Elementary School
Frank D. Moates Elementary
The Meadows Elementary
Ruby Young Elementary School
Woodridge Elementary
Amber Terrace DDC - Food Truck

Meals will be served from 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Monday- Friday
Breakfast: 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. Lunch: 11:00 - 1:00 p.m.
