Mon/Yough Trail Council Hosts Inaugural
1/2 Marathon & 5K Run/Walk

We invite you to join us on Saturday April 16, 2011 at 9:00 am for the Inaugural Dead Man's Hollow Half-Marathon & 5K Run/Walk.  This event will take place on the scenic "Boston Trail" section of the Mon/Yough Trail.  Both events are out and back style trail runs and will be fast due to the nice flat trail.

This event will help us continue to update and expand the trail system along the rivers in our area and bring more awareness to the region of the great trail system we have in our backyard.

The trail organization is completely volunteer and they are non-profit, so any support of this event or the organization is greatly appreciated.  If you are already registered, remember to bring a friend and help us raise awareness.  If you are not registered for the event yet, then look below for details on how to join us.

We hope you will be there when our presenting sponsor, Jefferson Regional Medical Center, helps us kick the races off in style!

Questions, please feel free to call me.

Thanks,

Race Day Instructions

In order for the race run smoothly, we need your cooperation in everything from your arrival time to your departure.  Our volunteers will do the best they can to assist you in any way, but we do ask for some help from you.  If you can work with us on the following notes, your race day experience will be a good one and everyone will leave with a smile on their face.

  1. Plan to arrive at the race location at least 1 hour prior to the start in case of traffic.  This will allow time for you to park and get to the start line on time.  You may have to park about 1/2 mile away and walk tot he starting area.
  2. You must pick up your timing chip RACE DAY at the Registratino area in order to receive an official time.  The Timing chip is a small electronic device which attaches to your shoe and records your official finish time.  It will be removed at the finish line by volunteers.
  3. You MUST wear your race number on the front of your body so any volunteer can readily identify you and it also assits in timing.  If you are wearing a jacket it still must be visible on the outside.
  4. If you plan to bring a drop bag with a change of clothing, please make sure the bag closes and is well marked with your race number and your name.  We will have pens and tape available on race day to mark the bags as well.
  5. If you use gels on the course other than at a designated water stop, then we ask that you carry every bit of garbage with you and politely drop it at a water station or the finish.  This is a trail so leave only footprints.
  6. Make sure you cheer and thank the volunteers. This is a tireless group who do so much good for the trails and we owe them a great big thank you.

Overall, we want you to have a great time and we look forward to hosting you this weekend.

We hope you can join us for this wonderful event and help us celebrate the great volunteers who helped build and continue to maintain our area's trail systems.

Sincerely,
