The gallery at the Block Island Airport kicks off spring with an exhibit featuring works by contemporary artist Kate Aitchison. Aitchison’s art focuses on print media incorporating her handmade paper. The prints will be on display through June 21.

Kate Aitchison is an artist, who lives and works in Providence and Utah. Her work is centered around the ideas of landscape and the human interventions in the natural landscape, especially regarding the manipulation of water and ecologies. Working with paper she makes herself from invasive plant species and recycled materials collected from site specific areas, she utilizes the medium of printmaking to work though iterations of landscapes changed by human actions. Amy Smith, an expert in preparing taxes for artists, will co-host the workshop, "Rhode Island Taxes, State & Federal Pandemic Relief, on Tues., April 13, 4 -6 p.m.

Hope Valley and Chariho Regional High School’s Virginia Keister is the 2021 winner of the Poetry Out Loud state championship held on March 21, on YouTube. In announcing the winner, Randall Rosenbaum, executive director of RISCA, said that Keister will be representing the state in the regional competition, May 2, and national finals, May 27.
