CHAMBER TO HOST RECALL ELECTION CANDIDATES' FORUM

The March 8 Knowledge & Networking Lunch will feature a candidates’ forum for the May 1 city council recall election. Qualified candidates vying for the positions of mayor and city council are invited to participate. The incumbent mayor and council members have also been invited to deliver messages of why they should not be recalled.

IN THE WAKE OF TAX REFORM: THE BIGGEST CHANGES

As we all know, the President signed the sweeping tax reform bill ushering in a broad range of changes including new rules for income tax rates and deductions, college for savings incentives, estate planning and corporate taxes. These new rules are leaving folks scratching their heads and scrambling to find out what the most sweeping tax reform package in decades means and what actions to consider.

ADVERTISING SALES FOR 2018 GUIDE

One of the Chamber’s signature publications is its annual Business and Community Guide. Advertising sales are now open for the 2018 edition.

As with past editions, the 2018 Guide will be distributed all over town. Most of the hotels in Oxnard make it available to their guests. With its eye-catching cover and beautiful photography, the Guide is something people hold onto and use as a buying reference.

CAL LUTHERAN OFFERING HOSPITALITY DEGREE

First SoCal private university program starts in fall

California Lutheran University will offer a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management and tourism, the only one available from a private institution in Southern California, starting in the fall semester.

SEEAG RECEIVES $7,500 GRANT FROM REITER AFFILIATED COMPANIES 
Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture ( SEEAG ), a nonprofit organization that helps young students understand and appreciate the origins of their food, received a $7,500 grant from Reiter Affiliated Companies (RAC).

5 THINGS WE DID FOR YOU IN THE PAST WEEK
1.Chamber CEO Nancy Lindholm attended the Linked Learning Convention in Anaheim to hear about best practices in connecting business with education in an effort to assure Oxnard has college and career ready high school graduates.

2.Hosted SCORE (Service Core of Retired Executives) in our conference room where they provide no-cost business consulting.

3.Held an OXYP (Oxnard Young Professionals) meeting where the group networked and firmed up their 2018 goals.

4.Friday was Public Safety Day for the Oxnard Leadership group, which included a real-life SWAT experience.

5.Lined up Dr. Herb Gooch, Professor of Political Science at Cal Lutheran University, to moderate a recall election candidates’ forum on March 8.

ATTORNEY GENERAL, LABOR COMMISSIONER ISSUES GUIDANCE AND FAQ FOR EMPLOYERS ON IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Labor Commissioner Julie Su yesterday issued two documents for California employers dealing with California’s Immigrant Worker Protection Act (AB 450).

Attorney General Becerra issued an  advisory providing an overview of and guidance on the privacy prescriptions under AB 450. Commissioner Su also issued joint guidance on  frequently asked questions to help employers and workers understand and comply with the new state law.
