Y Alumni Weatherford Chapter
Spring Fling May 2 - 4, 2022
Winston-Salem, NC
You do not want to miss a chance to mark a couple of things off your bucket list in Winston Salem!! Who doesn’t want to visit the town of Mayberry of Andy Griffith Show fame and a chance to be a real, live cowboy/girl!!
We will be staying in the vibrant arts district of downtown Winston Salem at the newly renovated Marriott Twin City Quarter. (SEE INFORMATION UNDER PHOTO BELOW)
On Monday evening we will gather in the lobby and walk a short 3 blocks to Foothills Brewing Restaurant where we will have dinner with a cash bar in their private dining room, Footnotes. After dinner we will find out exactly how much everyone knows about Mayberry and the Andy Griffith show with a little Mayberry Trivia competition.
On Tuesday morning we will carpool to Mt. Airy, a 40 minute drive, and explore the town where Andy Griffith grew up, the inspiration for the town of Mayberry!  Lunch will be on your own, but there are plenty of great restaurant options in Mt. Airy. (SEE MORE INFORMATION UNDER PHOTO BELOW)
Tuesday evening we will gather in the Bethabara Room at the hotel for an authentic Carolina BBQ buffet with a cash bar. After dinner, we will learn about what’s happening in the Triad YMCAs.
After Wednesday morning checkout, Joe and Jean Warwick have invited everyone to their home in Davie County (20-minute drive) for a visit to their Ole West Town of Rocky Knoll where the Brown Summit Kid (Joe) and his Rocky Knoll Rangers will demonstrate how the Wild West was tamed. They will even give you a chance to be the Good Guy with a white hat and guns a blazing with some target shooting on the range. Afterwards, the Rocky Knoll Rangers will treat us to a Cowboy lunch before heading back to our respective homesteads.
For those who want to stay an extra day and explore Winston-Salem, there are several places you won’t want to miss! If you would like to learn more about W/S Moravian roots, Old Salem features a living history museum that interprets the restored Moravian community or you can tour the Reynolda House Art museum, where the R.J. Reynolds family lived while building a nationally renowned company in the heart of North Carolina bright-leaf tobacco country or take a day on the North Carolina wine trail. The Yadkin Valley has a similar climate and growing season as some of the best wine regions in Europe. Or you can stay in downtown and visit some of the local breweries within walking distance of the hotel!
