Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

Detours are part of life. They are seldom fun. When we get caught in a detour, we can’t help but think of getting behind in our schedule. Or sometimes we get lost since detour signs are not always clear. Usually we’re in a hurry and none of us really plans for a detour to happen, so there is some frustration. Our plans are set and we know where we want to be. I think of life’s detours that catch us off guard. Maybe our career goals get derailed in some way. Our hopes for love and relationships don’t unfold as we most desire. Perhaps our plans for our family end up getting sidetracked or there is difficulty for a child or a spouse that requires much love, attention and changes our focus in life....

Prayer Walk Saturday and Lenten Experiences/Worship at PVUMC
Paradise Valley United Methodist Church (PVUMC) invites you to experience Lent every day during the six-week season leading up to Easter.

One way is through the practice of prayer. On Saturday, March 10, at 10 am, join other prayer warriors at Canaan in the Desert, to walk the Stations of the Cross. Learning and Living Ministry Team Member Polly Wintergalen will guide us through this prayer garden run by the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary and located at 9849 N 40th St, Phoenix, AZ 85028 (south of Shea). If you are on social media, take a selfie or other photo and share your experience with your network of friends and family on Facebook or Instagram. Tag your post with the hashtags #pvumc #lent and #prayergarden. Check in or add a geo tag if you’d like.

The Learning and Living Ministry Team offers several Sunday morning experiences on the patio after worship too. This Sunday, March 11, look for a table with candles. You're invited to light a candle and say a prayer. You’re invited to walk the labyrinth too. Read More about the other experiences on the website.

The Prayers of Intercession are included in the Looking Ahead. Unless otherwise requested, prayer requests are e-mailed to the 200+ Prayer Team members and shared with pastors and staff. Submit a prayer request using our online request form or call the church office at 602.840.8360.

Worship Bulletins are available for the 8 am and 9:30 am worship services on Sunday.
Ignite at 11 am is an alternative, contemporary and bulletin-free service in the chapel.

Mission Team to Guatemala
Keep the medical mission team to Guatemala in your prayers this week, March 10-18. Thank you to everyone who donated supplies and funds to the team. Your generous gifts helped pay for the teams’ in-country medical supplies and medicines used in the rural clinics and for the school supplies and children’s vacation bible school curriculum. The team also received more than 500 donated pairs of eyeglasses. Mission team member Peggy Howard said they packed approximately 27 boxes of supplies, including medical kits for the rural clinics and eyeglasses. “It’s more than we’ve ever had before,” she said. Thank you for being God’s love in action.
