Bulldog Families, Some very exciting news this week as the College announced we will be residential in Spring 2021! Please refer to your email (or your student's Dean College email) for the full letter from Dr. Rooney with initial plans. There will be more details in the coming months as we excitedly prepare for everyone's arrival so continue to watch for postings and please continue to check the FAQ's on the front of the Dean College website. Your student will receive an email this week from the Office of Residence Life asking them to indicate whether they intend to reside on campus in the spring semester. The due date for this response is Friday, November 6. While this is not intended to provide exact numbers, it will give us a strong indication of residential interest for planning purposes. As the snow is falling here in Franklin (much too soon for my liking) also comes the realization that we are past the midpoint of the semester. ALL STUDENTS (NEW and RETURNING) must submit confirmation of the Flu Vaccine by December 31, 2020 Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, influenza vaccine will be required for all full-time undergraduate and graduate students under 30 years of age and all full- and part-time health science students at post-secondary institutions. Influenza vaccine is always important to receive to reduce the risk of getting sick with influenza, reduce the severity of disease if one does get sick (including the risk of hospitalization) due to influenza, as well as preventing the spread of influenza to others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, influenza vaccine will be especially critical to reduce the overall impact of respiratory illness on the population, protect vulnerable populations from severe illness, and decrease the overall burden on the healthcare system. Any documentation that is provided by the practitioner who administered the influenza immunization is acceptable. There is NOW a location within the Health Portal labeled 2020-2021 Influenza Vaccine Record to upload the documentation. Robbins Family Center for Advising & Career Planning Course preregistration for Spring 2021 is coming up in mid-November! Please encourage your student to keep an eye out for communication from their Success and Career Advisor with more information about the process! In partnership with Alumni Relations, we have offered several panels this semester featuring Dean alumni who share their journey and advice! Check out this page to view past events and encourage your student to check out Today@Dean for future events! Do you have a graduating senior? Ask them about their mock interview as part of Senior Seminar! All seniors will participate in a mock interview with a career professional in the first two weeks of November!  If you would like to connect with your student’s Success and Career Advisor, please do not hesitate to reach out to them directly or email advising@dean.edu.

Morton Family Learning Center- Tutoring, Workshops and Academic Coaching Did you know that the Berenson Writing Center provides free writing support for all Dean students? Faculty, professional and peer tutors trained specifically in a variety of writing techniques offer tutoring by appointment via video conferencing. Written feedback is also available! Day and evening times are provided; students can sign up and get more information about our Writing Center by visiting the Learning Center’s page on Today@Dean.

Office of Residence Life- Roommate Selection- Spring 2021 New Students By December 14th, the Office of Residence Life will reach out to students regarding housing assignments. Students will only need to revisit the ‘MyHousing’ link if they have a roommate request. Please note that both roommates must list each other on the application to be considered and the College intends to house first year students by cohort (i.e. major, extracurricular activity, etc.). Due date for completion of this request is Friday, November 20th. Students can find the Housing Application by visiting the ‘MyHousing’ link on the front page of Today@Dean under ‘Essential Links’. Returning Students Due to de-densifying efforts and spaces off-line for quarantine and isolation, rooming assignment may change. By December 14th students will be made aware of their housing placement. Students will receive an email notification to check their ‘MyHousing’ page found on the front page of Today@Dean under ‘Essential Links’. Returning students do not need to resubmit a roommate application. Residence Life - Making Connections Each Friday the Office of Residence Life will host First Year Fri-Yays where first-year students can come together to connect and create lasting memories. These events are designed specifically for first-year students to be able to interact with one another, get tips from campus student leaders, and continue to develop new life skills each week in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Traditionally, staff get to know students who congregate in their residence hall lounges. Every Tuesday at 6:00 PM the Residence Life staff and student leaders will offer a virtual First Year Community Space. The community space is a virtual lounge space where first-year students can come together, catch up, ask questions, and make friends.  Is your student a returning student looking to connect with other residential students, students from their residential hall last year, and/or the Resident Directors? Residence Life will host Returning Residential Meet Ups on November 12th and November 19th at 5:15 PM ET. The Resident Student Association, an organization open to all residential students, will also host virtual lounge spaces and virtual meetings every Tuesday at 5 PM, and annual events for your student to get involved. Please encourage your student at home to check out these fun and informative events. Additional information regarding each event can be found on the Campus Events part of Today@Dean or @DeanCollegeCampusLife on Facebook or Instagram.

The 2021-2022 FAFSA is now available! The 2021-2022 FAFSA is now open and available for parents and students to complete. You will need to complete the 2021-2022 FAFSA in order to receive financial aid for next year. Visit https://fafsa.ed.gov to begin your application today. Please be sure to have your FSA ID username and password with you so you can electronically sign the FAFSA. Student Activities and Leadership Development Bulldog families, to learn more about campus events and opportunities that students can connect with one another, please make sure to follow Dean College Campus Life on both Facebook and Instagram. This will give you a chance to see what events are offered to Dean students. All Dean students also receive an email every Monday morning titled Weekly Happenings where all of the upcoming week’s events are listed. We also greatly encourage students to routinely check the 'Events' section of Today@Dean. This week we hosted Zoom hangouts from different regions of the US! We encourage you to engage with your students about what events and programs they are attending as well as what student organization they have joined to add to their Dean College experience. From the Office of Counseling Services If election anticipation has you feeling anxious 'You Are Not Alone'. There are things that you can do before, during, and after the election to care for your mental health! Counseling Services are available. Email MaryAnn Silvestri, Director of Counseling Services at msilvestri@dean.edu. The Voter Education committee will also hold an open forum following the 2020 Presidential Election. Staff & Faculty will be available to answer questions, share thoughts and discuss the results from Tuesday's Election. Zoom links are posted on Today@Dean.
