Bulldog Families,
As we make the seasonal change from summer to fall, we truly hope the transition for your student to synchronous online college learning has been a smooth one. The overall response from faculty and staff is that students have been very engaged and have maintained a great sense of positivity! The excitement of a new academic year never wanes and we are ever poised to observe greatness from our Bulldogs whether in the first weeks of college life or on the cusp of graduation. Your unwavering support is greatly appreciated as the College continues to navigate this unprecedented time in history. I've warned the incoming class of my penchant for bad puns (most likely returning students are well aware) and as you can see from my picture while the campus is quieter than usual, I am still closely monitoring any activity. Below are a number of helpful resources, events and timelines to assist you and your student this fall. Wishing you well from Franklin and Let's go Bulldogs!

Making Connections!
Each Friday the Office of Residence Life will host First Year Fri-Yays where first-year students can come together to connect and create lasting memories. These events are designed specifically for first-year students to be able to interact with one another, get tips from campus student leaders, and continue to learn and develop new life skills each week in a welcoming and positive environment.
Traditionally, staff get to know students who spend time with friends in their residence hall lounges. Every Tuesday the Residence Life staff and student leaders will offer a First Year Community Space. The community space will be a virtual lounge space where first-year students can come together, catch up, ask questions, and make friends. The Resident Student Association will also host virtual lounge spaces, meetings, and annual events for students to get involved.
Please encourage your student at home to check out these fun and informative events. Additional information regarding each event can be found on the Campus News section of Today@Dean.

ALL STUDENTS (NEW and RETURNING) must submit confirmation of the Flu Vaccine by December 31, 2020
Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, influenza vaccine will be required for all full-time undergraduate and graduate students under 30 years of age and all full- and part-time health science students at post-secondary institutions. Influenza vaccine is always important to receive to reduce the risk of getting sick with influenza, reduce the severity of disease if one does get sick (including the risk of hospitalization) due to influenza, as well as preventing the spread of influenza to others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, influenza vaccine will be especially critical to reduce the overall impact of respiratory illness on the population, protect vulnerable populations from severe illness, and decrease the overall burden on the healthcare system.
Any documentation that is provided by the practitioner who administered the influenza immunization is acceptable. There is NOW a location within the Health Portal labeled 2020-2021 Influenza Vaccine Record to upload the documentation.
For additional information about the flu vaccine and FAQ's please visit mass.gov.

Keeping Mental Health Top of Mind
As Dean students get acclimated to a new (very different) semester and families continue to maneuver changing workspaces and home routines, it can be very easy to lose sight of our emotional wellbeing and mental health. While we are all coping with this in our own ways, and with different degrees of stress and uncertainty, I think, we can all agree, Corona needs to go away! But for now, we continue to move forward. Keeping tabs on our mental health and having a self-care plan will assist us with managing struggles and challenges along the way. Here are some positive mental health habits you might think about practicing. Take care and be well! If you have questions about remote counseling services please reach out to MaryAnn Silvestri, Director of Counseling at msilvestri@dean.edu.

Since April 2020 when Storytime with… started, there have been over 35 guests sharing with the students. Towards the end of each session, the conversation shifts to a Q&A time with all the participants.
