Happy November Bulldog Families!
Did you know that if you say Rabbit, Rabbit as your very first words on the first day of the month that it will bring you good luck all month long? And while much of our students' success and talents are clearly based upon skill, we can all use a little luck now and again.
As you may be aware, Dr. Rooney has recently announced that her presidency will come to a close next May after 27 years in Bulldog Nation. While we were sad to learn of this decision, as a community we congratulate her on this next transition and thank her infinitely for her guidance, stewardship, and commitment to the growth and success of Dean College throughout her tenure. The full article is below.
As we pass the mid-point of the fall semester and round the bend toward the holiday season, time always appears to take on a more rapid pace. While we know fatigue is ever-present it will important to maintain focus in the classroom each day. Below Counseling Services offers some tips to keep the motivation strong.
It's also time to think about what courses students will select for the spring. Ask your student if they have checked in with their Advisor regarding class options and their date and time for selection.
One of our favorite traditions at Dean will be making a comeback this year with our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. We are so excited to enjoy this time with our students, and I'll be sure to share pictures in the next newsletter.
Let's Go Bulldogs!

I HATE HAMLET
DECEMBER 2-5, 2021
2:00 P.M. | 7:30 P.M.
MAIN STAGE
Andrew Rally, a young and successful television actor, relocates to New York, where he rents a marvelous, gothic apartment. With his television career in limbo, Rally is offered the opportunity to play Hamlet onstage, but there’s one problem: He hates Hamlet. His dilemma deepens with the entrance of the ghost of actor John Barrymore, who arrives intoxicated and in full costume to the apartment that once was his. In this play by award-winning author Paul Rudnik, the contrast between the two actors, the dissipated Barrymore, whose Hamlet was the greatest of his time, and Rally, the television star, leads to a wildly funny duel over women, art, success, duty, television, and yes, the apartment.
I Hate Hamlet is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

Bulldogs Protect Bulldogs-Wear those masks over the nose!
Report symptoms on CoVerified!
Flu Vaccine Clinic- Nov. 17
We continue to see a very low COVID-19 positivity rate on campus, and it has been through everyone's efforts! Please remind your student to wear those masks above the nose, especially now that we have entered cold and flu season. We saw very few cases of the flu last year which we suspect in large part was due to mask wearing and good hygiene best practices (handwashing, etc.). Students are also reminded to immediately report symptoms on their CoVerified App. Students will only be restricted until the nurse practitioner has had an opportunity to call them. On the call, they will review the current symptoms and decide whether further follow-up or testing is necessary. Many times following the phone call they can be cleared with no restrictions. Click on the banner above for our weekly and cumulative fall testing results.

Office of Counseling Services
We are all dealing with the fatigue from the pandemic. Here are some discussion topics and reminders to keep your students focused for the second half of the semester...the time moves quickly!
Have You Seen My Motivation? At this point, most of us are back at it, in the office, the classroom, and living on campus. Life has kicked back in…which is great, what we have been waiting for…so why does it seem so hard to stay motivated?
There are many reasons people lose motivation, being bored with your routine, feeling like you are not making a difference, comparing yourself to others, and of course stress! Figuring out what is impacting your motivation takes a bit of self-reflection and the desire to have things improve. Here are a few strategies that may help ignite that motivation!
1. Remember your WHY
Why are you doing what you are doing? school, work, sports?
What was the drive behind making the choices you made? To get my degree, find a career I love, earn money or be part of a team. Write all the reasons down to remind yourself of why you got started!
2. Visualize
Close your eyes and think about the absolute best outcome of reaching your goal.
Make it huge and colorful; visualize yourself achieving it. Does it give you a rush of motivation? Now act and take steps towards this outcome now!
3. Check it Off!
Checking things off our “to do” list can provide the instant gratification we all look for. Think about one task, a little thing, you can complete today that moves you closer to your goal. Make a deal with yourself to complete this task, and check it off your to-do list.

The 2022-2023 FAFSA is now available!
The 2022-2023 FAFSA opened October 1st and is available for parents and students to complete. Submit the FAFSA online or use the myStudentAid app to begin your application today. The earlier you submit the FAFSA the better as some aid is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Your FSA ID and password and your parent FSA ID and password (if dependent) will be needed to electronically sign the FAFSA. As always, if you need help filling out the FAFSA or have any questions, you can contact the Center for Student Financial Planning and Services at sfp@dean.edu or via phone at (508)-541-1518.

Community Service
On Saturday, October 23, members of Dean Community Outreach (DCO) and the men’s lacrosse team spent time at Nason Street Park in Franklin raking leaves, planting flowers, and cleaning the playground equipment. Nason Street Park is a little park right near campus, and DCO coordinates a clean-up of the park twice a year.
November kicks off the season of giving. The Dean College Community will have a variety of ways that they can give back throughout the rest of the semester. Student organizations will be sponsoring a food drive, a blood drive, creating care kits for local veterans, and spending time at the Franklin Food Pantry just to name a few things that will be going on both on and off-campus.

Calendar Planning
