Happy Holidays Bulldog Families!
We are closing in on the end of another successful semester in Bulldog Nation with just a handful of days and likely several exams and presentations filling that stretch. While discussions of a new COVID-19 variant dominate the news, we are thrilled that our students have been able to showcase their talents on the playing field, on stage, and enjoy events and extracurricular activities on campus.
This includes our recently held Thanksgiving Dinner, where staff and faculty served dinner to our Bulldogs. This time-honored tradition is a reminder of all that we have to be thankful for, especially as we hear of the recent tragic events in Ohio and Michigan. We hope that everyone will take time this holiday to reflect and think about how we can continue to respect, care and support each other during these difficult times.
Important fall closing information, campus events, and campus highlights are outlined below. Office contact numbers are listed at the end of the Newsletter.
Congratulations to our December graduates! Your perseverance and dedication have prepared you well for the next chapter in your lives, and we are excited to watch your success from afar.

Office of Residence Life
The residence halls will close at 6:30pm on Thursday, December 16th for Winter Break. Students are required to depart two hours after the completion of their last exam. Any exceptions to this policy will be determined by the Office of Residence Life located in Chapman House. Students may leave all belongings in their room unless they are not returning for the spring semester. Students are reminded to exercise caution when leaving any valuables in their room. Resident students must sign up for a check-out time with the Residence Life staff in their respective buildings. Lastly, please know that if your student has a space in their room, they need to have it clear and ready for a new student to move in as we often see students transfer into Dean for the spring. Reminder: residence halls re-open for the spring semester on Tuesday, January 18th and classes will begin on Wednesday, January 19th. Students will receive more information regarding the move-in process over winter break.

Office of Health Services
We had a very successful flu clinic for students in November as we exhausted the entire supply brought by Walgreen's! If they haven't received it as of yet, please continue to encourage your student to get the flu shot to protect them during flu season.
We are strongly encouraging the entire Dean Community to get the COVID19 booster shot! The CDC is currently recommending all those 18+ that are fully vaccinated to get their booster shot (2 months after the J&J vaccine and 6 months after the final dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine). You can get more information at mass.gov/COVID19booster or consult with your physician. The College will provide more information regarding any changes or updates on spring COVID19 policies during the winter recess.

Counseling Services Recognized by the KyleCares Foundation
Dean College was recently recognized by KyleCares, a family foundation that was created by the Johnson family in honor of their son Kyle, who took his own life in 2018. The foundation looks to partner with schools and colleges in Massachusetts to continue addressing the critical work of addressing mental health and suicide prevention. A portion of the funding will be used to support the Healthy Minds Survey, a national tool that examines mental health and identifies priorities for each institution to be administered in Spring 2022. Pictured to the left are members of the Johnson family and MaryAnn Silvestri, Director of Counseling Services at Dean college.

Bulldog Community Service
On Saturday, November 6, over 50 students, staff, and alumni came together to build beds for local children in partnership with A Bed for Every Child. The mission of this organization is to ensure all children have a bed of their own, regardless of their family’s income. They partner with businesses, schools, and community organizations across Massachusetts to provide beds for families in need through a meaningful team-building experience. By Dean College investing in strengthening students’ teamwork skills which hone leadership, communication, and problem-solving capabilities, a tangible impact was made in the community – giving a local child access to a life-changing resource.
In addition to this project, Dean Community Outreach and the men’s lacrosse team participated in the semi-annual clean-up of Nason Street Park, located a block from campus. Faculty and staff have also been volunteering twice a month at the Franklin Food Pantry, and we are thrilled to be able to have the “Giving Tree” back on campus this month. The “Giving Tree” supports a community organization that gives gifts to local children during the holiday season. Giving back has certainly been an important part of being a Bulldog this semester, and we are looking forward to more opportunities in the Spring semester.
