Bulldog Families,
Accentuate the positive. Often it feels this term has been difficult to come by and yet critically important to the outlook we must maintain. We are so excited to welcome our new Bulldogs to campus along with our 'veteran' dogs. We rejoice in the opportunity to once again produce a robust activities calendar for students to enjoy. We are fired up to cheer on all of our athletic teams as they compete as full members of the NCAA Division III and to enjoy the incredible talents of our students in the performing arts. Above all, we are thrilled to see our entire student body continue to challenge themselves with resiliency, passion, dedication, and leadership. We know that obstacles remain, and we will continue to enact policies and practices that will keep our community safe. However, we must remember this is just a moment in time, and our decisions every day will ultimately define our success as a campus community...Accentuate the positive. Let's Go Bulldogs!
I look forward to connecting with you during the coming academic year with highlights, important dates, and timelines from Bulldog Nation.
Dave Drucker, M. Ed.
Assistant Vice President, Student Life & Dean of Students

Check-in and Move-in (Sunday, September 5- Tuesday, September 7)
When arriving to campus, your student's first stop will be the Campus Center parking lot (entrance off Rt.140). Your student (only) will proceed to Thayer Barn (the testing center) to receive their first campus COVID-19 test administered by InHouse Physicians (IHP), the College's contracted vendor for testing. Those that have been approved for a medical or religious waiver will also take a rapid test and will need to wait for results before continuing with check-in.
All new students should take care of two items prior to their campus arrival:
1) Download the CoVerified Campus App to their mobile device as it will be used for the daily symptom reporting, scheduling weekly COVID-19 tests, and receiving their test results.
2) Complete the consent form for InHouse Physicians (the College contracted vendor for COVID-19 testing) prior to their arrival. Students can find their Student ID numbers on the Self Service page on Today@Dean.
Check-in and move-in times are posted on the Dean College website and can be accessed with the link: Bulldog Check-in and Move-in Times. Please arrive at your scheduled time only as we are staggering the check-in process to minimize the number of people on campus at one time. If you have additional questions regarding the move-in process, please contact the Office of Residence Life at 508.541.1838.
Resident students are permitted to have two individuals (over the age of 16) to help move them into their residence hall room. Don't forget to view our What to Bring to Campus page. All persons must be masked and will complete a symptom attestation form on campus. Anyone feeling symptomatic should not come to campus!

All new students will take part in Bulldog Beginnings beginning the evening of September 5th through September 7th. The program is designed to acquaint students to life in Bulldog Nation with a class picture, educational sessions, social activities, campus tours and concludes with our Welcome Back BBQ for the entire College. Students will have the opportunity to meet many of our key staff and faculty, which will start their college journey off on the right foot. Students will receive the full schedule of activities at the start of the program. We are very excited to welcome our newest Bulldogs to campus!

Counseling Services: Working through the present and Tips to Assist
The pandemic and the transition to a new phase in life can provide many emotions. Below are topics your student may be working through and how you can assist from afar.
Got Re-Entry Anxiety? You are not alone!
Re-entry anxiety refers to fear that goes along with letting go of the safeguards that were put in place to protect us during the COVID-19 pandemic and our re-entry into a world that has been changed by the virus.
Here are some tips that may help counteract re-entry anxiety:
Stay in Tune
Check in with yourself and identify your feelings. Do you feel excited or anxious as you return to work, school, or social events? What changes can be made to make your re-entry process a comfortable, smooth transition. Identify some strategies, write them down and decide when you will put them in place.
Communicate is the Key
Share your concerns and fears with those you trust so that they can support you. Talk with a mental health care professional if you continue to struggle so you can make the necessary changes to better manage your anxiety.
Slow & Steady
It continues to be somewhat of an unsettling time. Getting back to this “new normal” takes time and you should do it at a gradual pace. It’s OK to take a step forward, take a break, then evaluate and adjust before moving forward. Try to be flexible as you make changes.
Breathe in, Breathe Out
If re-entry anxiety is keeping you stuck, use some breathing techniques to help you relax and center yourself. Try a few different breathing techniques, figure out which ones work best, and practice them regularly to get the full benefit. Here is a website with a variety of different breathing strategies.
A Positive Spin
Reframing negative thoughts is a great way to keep moving in a positive direction. Rather than saying “Things are never going to be the same” say “There is good evidence that the vaccines are working, and things are improving.”
If your student wishes for a Counseling Check-In...Counseling Services is here to support them! Appointments can be made by filling out an Appointment Request form, emailing Counselingservices@dean.edu. Counseling Services is open Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00.

Whether it's a slice of pizza, hand-cut fries, pressed panini at the deli counter, comfort food from global, wings from Boomer's, a Starbucks beverage from the Beanery, or nationally renowned customer service from our greeters, Sodexo Dining goes the extra mile for our students. The food industry has experienced especially difficult times with staffing and product. No one is immune to this reality. We expect that everyone will exhibit kindness and patience as we work through any challenges this may provide on campus.
A new initiative from the spring that continues is to order 'on the go' with the Bite Universities App. Students can pre-order from the Bulldog Beanery and Boomer's Restaurant, use touchless payment, and add Boomer's Bucks throughout the year. Directions for downloading can be found on the Dean Dining Services webpage. View the webpage for days and hours of operation at all campus eateries.
We look forward to serving you!

Free Shuttle for Students
|
The College has a relationship with Kiessling Transportation where students can download the Gatra Go United app and have a free rideshare service available to them Monday thru Saturday from 9am - 6pm.
There is a three-passenger maximum for each trip. Students can use the service for Franklin and the neighboring towns of Foxboro, Wrentham, Norfolk, and Bellingham. Students have the opportunity to visit grocery stores, retail shopping centers, restaurants, and movie theatres.
Additionally, there will be an evening shuttle (with a 24 person maximum) most Saturdays from 8pm- 1am with service to and from Patriot Place in Wrentham. Patriot Place is a terrific destination with movie theatres, restaurants, shopping, and nightlife specifically for those that are 21+.
Students that choose to leave and return to campus before and after the hours provided by Gatra Go must obtain their own transportation (friend, rideshare, etc.). Campus Safety cannot leave campus for non-emergent transportation needs.
