Bulldog Families,
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly the academic year sails by. It's thrilling to close out a complete academic year where there were full classrooms and residence halls along with the triumphant return of activities, performances, athletic events, and many more vivid signs of restoration to pre-pandemic college life. While it has been another year filled with twists and turns, the successes we have achieved as a college are representative of the strength, resiliency, and compassion of the Dean community. This is certainly symbolic of Dr. Rooney's 27 years as Dean College President. There will be a multitude of opportunities for the campus community to honor her time at Dean College. We wish Dr. Rooney and Dr. Shaw a wonderful retirement and are forever grateful for their contributions and dedication to our students and the growth of the College. The Board of Trustees has oversight of the search for the 14th President. Further communication will be forthcoming during the summer months as warranted.
Often times I am asked by those outside the industry about my favorite moments of working in higher education. Without hesitation, my response is welcoming new students to campus each year and the tradition of Commencement Exercises. The opportunity to witness both of these monumental transitions and occasions is something I greatly cherish. As we close in on the weeks and days that our graduating class will walk through the iconic Arch and up Awpie Way for a final time as Dean College students, I offer my heartfelt congratulations. The four-year growth of college students is simply amazing and all of us in Bulldog Nation greatly look forward to celebrating with our graduates and families. As alumni, they are confident and prepared and we are incredibly excited for their future accomplishments in graduate school and industry.
Please see below for highlights, events, timelines, and important information throughout the final month, exam week, and closing. It has been a pleasure connecting with you throughout the year, and I wish everyone a wonderful and safe summer ahead.
Best,
Dave Drucker, M. Ed.
Associate Vice President, Student Life & Dean of Students

Counseling Services
Counseling Services has been busy with new mental health initiatives and supporting students!
Healthy Minds Survey
Covid-19 has had a tremendous impact on young adults. Student well-being and mental health concerns need to be a top priority on campus. In January 2020, Counseling Services received a grant from the KyleCares Foundation. T his grant provided the College with the opportunity to administer a mental health survey called the Healthy Minds Study. This web-based survey examines mental health, service utilization, and other related issues among college-age students. Since its national launch in 2007, HMS has been fielded at 400 colleges and universities, with over 550,000 survey respondents, ( Healthy Minds Network, 2007). Dean College will now be part of this prestigious study!
Once completed, HMS will provide the college with a comprehensive report which will allow us to evaluate existing programs and assess the needs for staffing, services, and programming.
Students can find the personalized, confidential survey link in their Dean e-mail by searching Healthy Minds Survey Administration. As of April 1st, over three hundred students have completed the survey! The deadline for completion is April 15th at 12:00 am. We have two weeks to go. Let’s Go Bulldogs!
Shout out to Project Green Student Advocates for Campus Mental Health
The Project Green club ran some impressive mental health programs this semester! Students had the opportunity to reduce stress by converting the Campus Center Atrium into the Zen Den. Activities included: creating your own essential oils, writing gratitude letters, coloring, prompts for journaling, yoga, and learning a new stress-reducing technique called Tapping (EFT). It was a great success!
Suicide Prevention Documentary
The Dean Student Government Association and Project Green co/sponsored the documentary My Ascension. This movie features the story of Emma Benoit, a suicide survivor, whose painful experience has sent her on a mission of education regarding suicide prevention and helping others to find hope. Jim and Sue Johnson founders of the KyleCares Foundation attended the event and presented Project Green with a $500 grant to assist with future mental health programs and initiatives.
