Families,
Like a light switch, fall weather has clicked on in New England which signals a turn to comfort foods, cider, and everything pumpkin! It also signifies that we are nearing Homecoming festivities for alumni and families. This year the events will include the installation of our new leadership, a plethora of a thletic events, and our Dean Showcase. The weekend highlights so many of the talents our students bring to campus, and we hope you will be able to join us. If you are on campus Friday, family members are welcome at the Installation Ceremony in Pieri Gymnasium, as well as the reception immediately following in the Rooney Student Center.
As we are now more than a third of the way through the fall, this is a great time to check in with your student, whether in-person or from afar, to see how they are progressing in their coursework and extracurricular activities. It's important to stay positive! There can be many stressors in the college environment; serving as a great listener and reflecting with positive reinforcement will continue to encourage your student to build that tool kit of resiliency and potentially take on new challenges. Regardless of how many semesters your student has completed at Dean, each is a chance to discover new traits, explore new relationships, and create lasting memories.
Below are a few reminders, upcoming opportunities, and some notable campus resources. Go Bulldogs!
Best,
Dave Drucker, M. Ed.
Associate Vice President, Student Life & Dean of Students

The residence halls will close on Tuesday, November 22 at 6:30pm for Thanksgiving Break. The halls will re-open on Sunday, November 27th at 12 noon. Students with a late departure or that need to stay on campus during the break must submit their request to Residence Life by Wednesday, November 16th.
The residence halls will officially close for the fall semester on Thursday, December 15th at 6:30pm. Students are aware of their final exam schedules so check with them before coordinating travel plans. There will be more to come regarding the semester closing in the November Newsletter.

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic
The first campus Covid-19 Vaccine Clinic will be held on Wednesday, October 12 from 9am- 2pm in the Dr. Paula M. Rooney Student Center Atrium.
The supply will include ALL Covid-19 vaccines inclusive of the new booster. Students may use the QR code to pre-register and secure their time slot.
When completing the pre-registration process, students will need to know the manufacturer of their previous doses and the date of their most recent vaccine.
Covid-19 boosters can help provide more than 90% protection against serious illness from Covid-19. The current bivalent booster offers enhanced protection against the most common types of Covid that are currently circulating in the community, the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 strain. Getting a booster shot is the best way to protect yourself and your community against serious illness from Covid-19.
Feel free to reach out to Health Services at healthservices@dean.edu or 508.541.1600 with any questions regarding the Covid-19 Vaccine Clinic. We will send updates regarding future vaccine opportunities at the College. Thank you for your continued efforts to keep our community safe. The College is highly recommending that everyone receive the COVID-19 booster vaccine during the fall semester.

On Friday, October 21, Dean College will host its 5th annual Fresh Check Day. Fresh Check is a suicide prevention initiative started by Ernie and Marisa Porco. In 2011, their son, Jordon, died by suicide during his first year of college. In their grief, Jordan’s parents learned the unacceptable statistics surrounding mental health and suicide in the young adult population and decided they needed to turn their grief into action and founded the Jordon Porco Foundation.
Fresh Check Day is a campus-wide event that creates an approachable atmosphere where students are encouraged to engage in dialogue about mental health, learn about the warning signs of suicide, and access campus and community resources.
Fresh Check Day utilizes student groups, clubs, and organizations, in addition to college staff and faculty to develop and run interactive booths that deliver mental health information and resources in a fun and engaging way! We look forward to another tremendously successful event in support of this great cause.

Sending Mail and Care Packages
Please note: The issue with the mail room software and notification of package arrival for students has been resolved.
All student mail and packages sent to campus should be addressed as follows:
Student's Full Name (no nicknames please)
Dean College
99 Main Street
Franklin, MA 02038
• We are no longer utilizing mailboxes, or PMB #’s. All mail and packages will be sorted alphabetically by last name. When students pick up a package, we will also check for regular mail. All items will be distributed at the mailroom services window.
• Please refrain from using nicknames, as it will slow down the processing of your mail and could result in your mail being returned to sender.
• Students will receive an email notification each time a package is received. Look for a “Pitney Bowes SendSuite Tracking” notification in your Dean College email.
**Students must show their Dean College I.D. to receive their packages.**
Mailroom Hours during the Academic Year:
Monday through Thursday- 11am- 7pm
Friday- 11am- 5pm
If you have any concerns, please visit us in the mailroom on the lower level of the Dr. Paula M. Rooney Student Center Atrium or call 508-541-1533. Thank You!

There is a three-passenger maximum for each trip. Students can use the service for Franklin and the neighboring towns of Foxboro, Wrentham, Norfolk, and Bellingham. Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards- Shawn Tremblay, Director
The most frequent question I get as the Director of Student Conduct & Community Standards is “what do you do?” In short, I help students identify behavioral missteps, understand the impact of their actions or inactions, and assist students in their personal growth and development.
The Dean College Code of Student Conduct is supported - at its foundation - by the Community Core Values of Personal Responsibility, Community Accountability, and Mutual Respect. All decisions made, programs or events organized, or supportive referrals made by my office are done so at the command of these three pillars.
Personal Responsibility: Are students taking ownership of their missteps, acknowledging when they cause harm to the community, and making decisions that positively contribute to the student experience?
Community Accountability: Are students holding their peers, classmates, teammates, and friends to high standards of behavior and helping them find guidance and support to restore harmed relationships?
Mutual Respect: Are students creating spaces that are inclusive of folks within our community that may be different from themselves? Are students able to share respect with everyone they meet, however different–age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, physical or mental ability, experience, skill, education, or religion?
As the Director of Student Conduct, I oversee the complete judicial process within the College. This means I review all incoming reports from residence life, campus safety, on-call personnel, and more. If the report alleges a violation of policy, the student(s) is invited to meet with a Conduct Hearing Officer to discuss the events, alleged behavior, and the impact of said behavior on the community. Through that conversation, a determination of responsibility is identified. If found responsible, the student(s) is provided a sanction (i.e., consequence), which is an action required by the student to remedy the concern or behavior. For more information about my office please reach out to me at stremblay@dean.edu.
