White Coat Ceremony Marks Milestone for Class of 2023

RSDM students recite dental oath at the White Coat Ceremony.
First-year students -- all 129 of them --  were symbolically inducted into the medical profession at last month's White Coat Ceremony. The tradition of distributing white coats to incoming students started over a decade ago at RSDM but has been a mainstay for medical students for many years. RSDM became the first dental school in the nation to hold a white coat ceremony in 2001.

Webinar Explores Health Equity for LGBTQ Patients

In collaboration with RSDM faculty, the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) will host a September 19 webinar on health equity for LGBTQ patients.  The webinar, which begins at noon, will explore the reasons LGBTQ people have poorer health outcomes than others. It will offer advice on providing the best care for the LGBTQ community. According to ADEA,  "Many LGBTQ persons may delay or fear seeking treatment because of their sexual orientation or gender identities. They are concerned about inferior care due to homophobia, discrimination and bias."  RSDM's Dr. Rosa Chaviano-Moran, Associate Dean for Admissions, and Dr. Herminio Perez, DIrector of Student Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion, are contributors to the webinar.  Join the webinar h ere. It's  the second in a three-part series on LGBTQ health care and oral health education.
