Alexander F. Taylor and Harvey A. Elder Endowed Scholarship
Last August, we had the opportunity to recognize the life and work of Harvey Elder, MD. Thanks to Alexander Taylor, MPH, and his generous initial donation in Elder's honor, we were able to announce our newly established Loma Linda University School of Public Health Epidemiology Scholarship. This scholarship will help students who seek to make the world a better place and help people through the practice of epidemiology.

Priya Bhat-Patel
Priya Bhat-Patel, DrPH, MPH, was elected to Carlsbad City Council and ran in the midst of finishing up her dissertation. She made history as the first Indian American elected to the City Council in San Diego County and the youngest in Carlsbad.

Meet Dr. Betty Crocker, MPH, RDN, the Director of Child Nutrition Services for @redlandsusd and some of her team, who are all from LLUSPH. We are so proud of how they practice public health and work to improve their community's health.

Salomeh Wagaw
SPH Alumni Salomeh Wagaw, MPH, has worked with Riverside County as an Epidemiologist since 2013 and transitioned into her role in 2021 at Riverside University Health System- Public Health as Program Director of Health Equity. She is committed to utilizing her skills as an Epidemiologist combing her passion for uplifting health equity, driving policy development, and addressing social determinants of health regionally.

Sherie Lou Z. Santos
Sherie Lou Z. Santos, MPH, MCHES, worked as a Legislative Director and Health Policy Director for a member in the House of Representatives. She transitioned into her new role in October as the Director of Policy and Government Affairs for the Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs focusing on bettering the health of all maternal and child health populations including families.

SPH Devotional Book: Share Your Story
Loma Linda University (LLU) School of Public Health is launching an initiative to gather inspirational public health stories into a daily devotional book. Similar to the Morning Rounds devotional book from the Loma Linda University School of Medicine, this book will tell the stories of how public health made a difference. Each daily entry will be written by SPH faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends.

Over the weekend, Ryan Sinclair, PhD, MPH, and several community partners measured water quality at the Salton Sea as part of the 'Salton Sea Environmental Time Series" community science project. | | |
Dr. Warren Peters has collaborated with Novo Nordisk, a Denmark-based pharmaceutical company, to study a new anti-obesity medication (semaglutide) to assist individuals in losing and maintaining their weight. | | |

Preventive Care Program Celebrates 50 Years
Earlier this month at Homecoming, the School of Public Health's alumni gathered for live music, dinner, and guest speakers to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Preventive Care program. Hosted by the program director, Hildemar Dos Santos, MD, DrPH, this event commemorated the program's impact on the world with its promotion of health, preventing diseases, and celebrating all its graduate's achievements after receiving their degrees.
