Snapshot of Success: Highlights from Our Fourth Week! | |
Rescue on the Field: A PE Class Turns into a Lesson in Compassion
During this week’s Jupiter PE class, something unexpected happened that turned a regular day into a memorable one for all, especially for one student. While practicing on the field, the students and Mr. Hiroshi, their PE teacher, discovered an injured or ill parrot lying still in the grass. The vibrant bird immediately captured the attention of the entire class, who, filled with concern and curiosity, rushed to grab the bird and bring it to the office.
In their excitement, the students showered the parrot with affection, but their well-meaning actions seemed to cause the bird further distress. One student, Athena, who has a passion for animals and hopes to work in a pet shop as part of her six-week project-based learning (PBL) goals, quickly took charge of the situation.
Athena instructed everyone to give the parrot space and helped with contacting animal control. The office staff called the agency, and soon an officer arrived to assess and handle the situation.
For Athena, this experience was particularly meaningful. She gained first-hand insight into the proper procedures for handling animals in distress, aligning perfectly with her PBL aspirations. The entire class learned an important lesson about compassion, patience, and how to appropriately respond to an animal in need. The day left a lasting impact, especially on Athena, who felt more prepared than ever for her future role working with animals.

ISSAC's Hispanic Heritage Month Event is a little over two weeks away! We're looking for about 10 volunteers from among parents and family to help out at the event, by:
- Greeting people at the front gate table
- Collecting payments for refreshments and fundraising activities
- Keeping an eye on classes when they're off-stage and directing them where they need to go
- Serving the refreshments
Volunteering doesn't mean you would miss the event! We'll rotate jobs around so you can still catch your students' class presentations.
If you can help in any of these ways during the event, please fill in your name on a blank line on this sheet! Thanks so much!
