Asia Pacific Climate Week 2018

Plans are well in place and excitement is building in advance of Asia Pacific Climate Week (APCW 2018) set for 10 13 July 2018 in Singapore. The event which lands two months ahead of both the Global Climate Action Summit in California and New York Climate Week will be instrumental in demonstrating that there is genuine international support for stepping-up climate action by mobilizing actors across the Asia-Pacific region.

On the first day 10 July the High-Level Climate Champions are convening stakeholders to discuss UN Climate Change and global climate action activities and milestones for 2018 and beyond. This meeting represents a special session to better understand how to engage regional actors in the inter-governmental process. In particular, Marrakech Partnership is hosting four events at APCW 2018 the support of ICC, CDP, SLoCaT and WBCSD:

  • High-level event: Transport in Cities – Parties and Non-Party Stakeholders Working Together to Deliver Low Carbon Urban Mobility (Lead: SLOCAT. Support: CCAC, CDP, UITP, UNEP);
  • Enabling Waste-to-energy, Reuse and Prevention Solutions to Achieve Circular Economy and Boost Climate Action (Lead: UNIDO. Support: BASWAC, FAO, ICC);
  • Data to Drive Climate Action and Energy Transitions in Cities (Lead: CDP. Support: IEA, ICC);
  • Strategies to Reach Scale: Adaptation and Climate-Resilient Initiatives in Coastal Zones (Lead: IFRC. Support: BAWC, WMO).

Sharing Stories of Ambition
For the first-time in the UN Climate Change process, country representatives are gathering alongside sub-nationals and non-governmental actors for the informal and inclusive ‘Talanoa Dialogue’. We are enormously grateful to those of you who have either submitted an input, or participated in a ‘Talanoa Dialogue’.

Many individuals, representing governments as well as public and private entities, who participated in the official Talanoa Dialogue during the May Session, shared their experience after the session. The highlights from these conversations are today being released in our ‘Talanoa for Ambition’ video, kicking-off a series of shorter videos (‘Talanoa Stories’) to be released in the coming months ahead of the political phase of the dialogue at COP 24.

The Summary Report , capturing the substance of the May discussions, is now available to view online.

New actions Announced Before the Global Climate Action Summit
The Summit is readying the stage for states and regions, cities, businesses and investors to demonstrate how they are leading the charge on both pushing down global emissions and strenghtening resilience to protect the most vulnerable. Already these actors are coming to table with a wave of new commitments that respond to one of the five Summit ‘challenge areas’.
