Dear Friends,
As you know, governments adopted a robust set of guidelines for implementing the landmark 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement this weekend. The agreed ‘Katowice Climate Package’ is designed to operationalize the climate change regime contained in the Paris Agreement. Under the auspices of the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat, it will promote international cooperation and encourage greater ambition. Read more about the COP outcome

Global Climate Action at COP 24
|

Over the course of the negotiations,
Global Climate Action staged a parallel schedule of events, showcasing concrete actions from all sectors of society.
The eight-day programme kicked off on Tuesday 4 December with a
High-Level Opening in the main plenary, featuring United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and COP 24 President Michał Kurtyka.
The Global Climate Action programme at COP24 also incorporated the inauguration of a new space, called the Action Hub, which hosted cultural performances, debates, TED-style talks, award ceremonies and video competitions. Guests included
Greta Thunberg,
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Slava Fetisov, and Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa.
Overall, there were 85 events which attracted nearly 4,000 participants (not including the music performances). The key highlights of Global Climate Action are captured

Looking ahead, it has been announced that COP25 will be in Chile next year. While the incoming Chilean high-level champion has yet not been announced, the work of the Marrakech partnership will continue.
In this regard, the High-level champions from Fiji and Poland agreed during COP24 to the Marrakech Partnership Work Programme for 2019, based on the consultations they held with Parties and stakeholders. Read the full program

Finally, the Talanoa Dialogue at COP 24 in Katowice, culminated in a
Call For Action, which has been issued by both Presidencies.
Many of you have been intimately involved in this process over the course of the past year – either as participants in Talanoas across the globe, by submitting inputs to the
Talanoa Dialogue portal, or simply by cheerleading from the sidelines.
