COP 26 - Outcome
The United Nations Climate Change Conference COP 26, held in Glasgow last November, ended with significant results for action on climate change. Here is an overview:

  • The rules for implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement (cooperative mechanisms, including carbon markets) were agreed.
  • 1.5 degrees Celsius of global warming was confirmed as the target, instead of 2.
  • Measures were put in place to increase the ambition of countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions through their yearly revision.
  • An agreement to phase down coal, which causes 40% of global emissions, was reached.
  • The role of nature-based solutions was clearly recognized, among other achievements.

The Glasgow Declaration For A Decade Of Climate Action in Tourism

This declaration aims to raise climate ambition in the tourism sector and create a pathway for the global commitment to halve emissions by 2030 and reach Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050.
Representatives from the industry and policy makers discussed strategies during an event organized and moderated by UNWTO. The signatories of the Glasgow Declaration agreed on five principles to ensure climate action is aligned across the tourism sector: Measure, Decarbonize, Regenerate, Collaborate, Finance. 

The Climate Neutral Now team supports this initiative and invites all professionals of the tourism sector to join.
Net Zero Carbon Events: COP 26 Pledge
On 10 November 2021 at COP 26, the events industry presented a united pledge for a net-zero carbon future for events.

Industry leaders from venues, events organizers, suppliers, as well as associations came to present the sector's commitment to fight climate change.

109 businesses from around the world have already committed to the pledge and are now working to initiate the work. The Climate Neutral Now team supports this collaboration and invites all organizations of the events industry to join.
