February 4, 2026

Greetings!

Welcome to the February 4th edition of the Eagle Update. Today is Wednesday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time. The Mass reflection is below. The complete reading can be found on the USCCB website.

"Speak, Lord, your servant is listening;

you have the words of everlasting life.”

From the President's Desk

Dear Savio Family,

Not sure what your plans are for the remainder of the week or upcoming weekend, but my schedule is looking pretty full:

Attending the Diocesan Administrative Retreat this afternoon and tomorrow, joining the Junior Class on their all-day and evening Street Retreat on Friday, assisting the enrollment office with student interviews for prospective Savio students for 2026-2027 all day on Saturday, then attending the Holy Family annual Gala that night. Sunday brings an opportunity to attend mass and join in on a special farewell for Fr. Tom and then spend the rest of the day preparing for the Super Bowl. Having a wife who grew up 20 minutes from Boston requires me to root for one of the teams playing.

All that being said, it is a blessing to be part of our Catholic school, walk in faith with our servant leaders, meet the potential class of 2030, celebrate our partner school next door, and show respect and love for someone who has shown respect and love for our school over the past four and a half years.  As far as the Superbowl ... I support my wife this year but pray for the day that my Detroit Lions can be in one. One can always hope and dream.

Finally, I am glad to inform you that we are entering into a formal contract with a company for the installation of electricity and lights for our Savio Athletic Complex - the softball, baseball, and combination soccer, football, and track areas. Special thanks to Patrick Baker, the Diocesan supervisor of all church and school-related facility projects, for his time helping us interview, select, and create the approved contract.  I will share the specific start date and expected timeframe for completion once we have it confirmed by the company. Project updates will be shared along the way and a special celebration is being planned for August 2026.

Have a blessed week and an even better weekend.

Take care,

Tim

Principal's Message

Dear Savio Family,

Being able to attend a Catholic School is truly a gift. The opportunity to learn in a faith-filled environment is not something I always appreciated as a child but as I grew older I realized the tremendous impact that Catholic school had on me. With time I became more grateful for the sacrifice that my parents made to send me and for the financial assistance my family received when needed. Whether your family has made the financial sacrifice to send your children to Catholic school or you receive financial assistance in order to attend, we appreciate each and every one of you being a part of the Savio family.

The State of Texas is now trying to do their part in giving parents the freedom to choose where they want to send their children to school and financial assistance to be able to do so. Hopefully you have heard by now about the Texas Education Freedom Accounts. More information can be found on the Diocese of Austin website. The application window opens today, but no need to rush, it is open until March 17th. We encourage all interested families to review the information and prayerfully discern if this opportunity is right for your family.

Thank you and God Bless,

Evan

Parking Lot

Many of you may have noticed workers digging a hole in the parking lot near the entrance. Unfortunately, we have had another water main break. The water will be shut off after school today in order to repair the break. Repairs will be completed before school opens tomorrow morning. We do not anticipate any disruption to the normal school day. Please be cautious as you navigate the area around the work zone.

Quarter 2 High Honor Roll and Honor Roll

Please help us congratulate those students on the High Honor Roll and Honor Roll for the second quarter at Savio.

Flu and Cold Season is Here

The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. We have seen many cases of flu and flu like illness across all grade levels. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:

Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:

  • Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
  • Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
  • Headache
  • Mild stomach ache

Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:

  • Fever (greater than 100 degrees by mouth and your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours)
  • Vomiting (even once)
  • Diarrhea
  • Chills
  • General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
  • Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
  • Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose

Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. Students may return to school per the Health Guidelines (2024 Health Guidelines for Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Austin). Please contact your physician with any questions or concerns.

Praying for our Sophomores!

The SPA Rosary Group meets every day to lift our school community in prayer. We pray one decade of the rosary by name for each student and staff member at Savio.

We are currently praying for our sophomores, Class of 2028. Watch for an email from SPA Rosary letting you know when your child’s decade is coming up. There is no action required, but we would love for you to join us or share intentions with us.

Anyone can join us at any time, whether we're praying for your grade or not. And we need you!! Several moms will be graduating and moving on. Please consider becoming a regular prayer warrior or even taking a lead role in organizing our ministry. You won’t regret it! When you give back to God in this way, He repays you many times over.

We meet at 8:30 am in the Chapel and Online via Google Meets Monday through Thursday to pray the Rosary, and on Fridays, weather permitting, we pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for open intentions in the Marian Courtyard outside from 8:15-8:35 am.

It is such a pleasure to pray with all of you!

Share intentions with us at sparosary@saviochs.org.

Check out our new page on the Savio Website!
