Mass Readings for Today

From the President's Desk

Dear Savio Family,

This week's Eagle Update falls on an important date in my life. Actually, it is the first date of my life. Each year, since I was a young man, I have used this day to reflect, review, discern, then decide on priorities for the upcoming year. Blessings are noted, challenges are identified, and renewed faith over fear is activated. When we serve others, we serve our God. When we serve His children, we honor our covenant and bring ourselves and others closer to Him.

This message is shared with you today as it reflects the focus of our school, the mission, and the purpose of our school. We strive to put our faith into action. We strive to help form servant leaders in the image of Christ. We strive, individually and collectively, to be better each day and support each other along the way.

So, enjoy this day and enjoy each day you are given. For we are gifted with our Catholic school, our faith, our family, and our friends. To me, those are always the best birthday presents anyone can receive.

Take care and God bless!

Principal's Message

Dear Savio Family,

This past weekend I had the great opportunity to be at the Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference (DCYC) in Waco. It was such a great joy to see so many of our students and parents there participating with their different parishes. The St. Dominic Savio student body is actually 89% Catholic and come to us from 30 different parishes across the Diocese of Austin.

DCYC was a great experience for our young people who had the opportunity to grow in their faith through prayer and worship, inspiring keynotes, breakout sessions, fun and games. It was very inspiring for me to see so many of our students and parents give up their whole weekend to spend time growing in their faith. All who attended had an amazing, spirit-filled experience. If your child did not have the opportunity to attend, have them ask their friends about their experience and hopefully we can take even more of the Savio community next year.

Thank you and God Bless,

Evan

Rise in Cold and Flu Cases

We are experiencing an uptick of flu and cold cases in the school. Our school nurse, Mrs. Guzman, asks that you please remind your students of the following:

  • Perform good hand hygiene with soap and water (wash for at least 20 seconds) or use hand sanitizer
  • before snack and lunch
  • after wiping their nose or covering their cough
  •  Cover their mouths when they cough or use a tissue
  •  Encourage them to stay home and not come to school if they are not feeling well

Please review the Diocesan Health Guidelines as you determine when your student is able to return to school after being absent due to illness. For any confirmed diagnoses, please report these to the school attendance office or the school nurse.

Please also keep in mind that per school policy, student athletes are required to be in class at least two blocks on game days and may not compete if they have been absent due to illness. Thank you and stay well!
