you have the words of everlasting life.”

Mass Readings for Today

From the President's Desk

Dear Savio Family,

As we continue through the first quarter of this school year and knowing that October will be another busy month, let me encourage you to reach out and communicate with your teachers, coaches, and administration if you need any updates or clarifications specific to your son or daughter's experience at Savio. We have been in session long enough now that everyone should be settled into their schedules, athletic seasons, and other extracurricular activities and routines.

In other words, please let us know how things are going and how we can help. We all get busy with what needs to be done, with checking off our lists, and preparing for upcoming events and responsibilities. Our school is at its best when we work together to be our best.

A part of our governance structure at Savio involves our Advisory Board. Their input and support is needed and appreciated too. We recently added four new members to our Savio Board of Advisors for this year. I humbly ask that you keep them in your prayers as they acclimate to their new role in guiding and supporting the mission of our school. We welcome Dot Ammons, Sanjay Cherian, Lisa Pettinato and Sue Ritter to their three-year term on the Advisory Board. Individually, and collectively, they bring a wealth of experience, care, concern, and passion for this Catholic school. We are thankful for their "yes" to serve our school community.

May God's love, grace, and guidance be with you this week, and may we continue to serve Him by serving the children who come to our school each day.

Take care and God bless,

Tim

Principal's Message

Dear Savio Family,

As I have in the last few Eagle Updates, I would like to talk once more about our culture of excellence. I have already shared about excellence in Catholic Identity and Academics. Today I would like to talk about how we are continuing to grow our culture of excellence in extracurricular activities.

Here at Savio we are very proud that no matter what interest a student has they can find their home in a number of activities. Whether a student is interested in athletics, robotics, or the fine arts, we strive to be a well rounded school that is excellent in all areas. Over the past few years our robotics teams have won numerous awards and recognitions locally, regionally and nationally. They continue to grow and excel every year. In the Fine Arts, our drama department puts on fantastic plays and musicals every year and our band and orchestra continue to grow and receive superior district and state recognitions. Finally, our athletics department has excelled in several boys and girls sports over the past few years winning district and state championships and numerous all-district and all-state recognitions.

Our culture of excellence in these areas means we want our students to be dedicated, passionate and hardworking. To be the best takes hard work and dedication. To be the best means to compete against the best competition. Our students continue to work hard to improve every day and our coaches, faculty moderators and directors continue to challenge them to be better. Savio will continue to be a place where all students can find a home no matter their interests.

Thank you and God Bless,

Evan

Overnight Senior Retreat October 15-16!

The Senior Retreat is coming up on October 15-16! This is an overnight retreat experience just for our Senior Class. Students will receive permission slips in their English class and need to return them to Sr. John Henry as soon as possible. Senior parents will be receiving an email soon with more details and a request from Mrs. Heyl, please respond promptly! If students need any medication during the retreat (even over the counter) they will need to fill out the Medication Form and turn it into the front office. Any questions about the retreat may be directed to Mr. Gamboa.

PSAT

9th-11th grades will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday, October 16th (freshmen will be taking the PSAT 8/9). Here are a few things that you need to know:

  • The exam is digital. We will be doing a Digital Readiness Check on Tuesday, October 8th during AOH.
  • Please bring your device on that day.
  • Signs will be posted with your assigned testing room. It will be the same for the Digital Readiness Check and the actual exam the following week
  • Download Bluebook this weekend in preparation for the check. This is the testing software that College Board is using.
  • Please review the information in the Student Guide:
  • PSAT
  • PSAT 8/9
  • If desired, you may take a practice exam through Bluebook. Some of you have already done this earlier this fall.
  • We ask that everyone takes the test seriously as teachers use this data to decide how best to adjust their teaching to the needs of the school community. However, junior year is particularly important as your scores this year count toward recognition by the National Merit Scholarship Program.
  • October 16th will not be a normal school day.
  • We will take the exam in the morning.
  • There will be an extra long lunch.
  • In the afternoon, we'll do various activities with Families. These include important trainings which are not optional.
  • School start and end will be the same as usual.

I'll send out more information closer to the 16th. The most important thing for now is to bring your computer on 10/8 with Bluebook installed.

Student Led Conferences - Oct. 18th Our Fall student-led conferences are on October 18th this year. Appointment slots are available from 2:00-5:00 and 6:00 - 7:00. Conferences are 8 minutes long and will be held in the Savio gym. You can sign up for a time using the links on this document. Student-led conferences are a great way to discuss how you have been doing during class so far or to get questions answered about the class. Attendance is not required, but highly recommended, especially for those classes in which you have been struggling. Students should arrive prepared to lead the discussion of their grades, class goals, and plans to achieve those goals. If you would really like to meet with your teacher and there are no times available that work for you, please contact your teacher to arrange another date.
