October 29, 2025

Greetings!

Welcome to the October 29th edition of the Eagle Update. Today is Wednesday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time. The Mass reflection is below. The complete reading can be found on the USCCB website.

"Speak, Lord, your servant is listening;

you have the words of everlasting life.”

From the President's Desk

Dear Savio Family,

As Halloween, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day approach us at the end of the week, let us remember that the collaborative and fun celebration of Trunk n Treat with Holy Family, the recognition of the Saints that are inspirational examples of a Christ-filled life, and the remembrance of loved ones who watch from above are all part of our school's culture and climate.

The weather, they say, will be cooler. The clocks, they remind us, turn back an hour on Sunday. Then, we enter the season of holidays. So much going on and so many opportunities to grow in relationship with family, friends, and our God. May we do our utmost best to find and maintain balance through all of it. May we work together to support our students as they navigate it too.

Athletic Complex Update: We received the official permit for the lighting project! For you, and those who also have been waiting for this, we will be asking for your kind and generous support. We are awaiting revised and accurate project bids so we know the target cost and projected timeline for the project to start and be completed. Our Director of Athletics, Mr. Blake Evans, will present an overview of the Grades 5-12 Athletic Department Plan at the next SPA Community Session. We may have updates on the project at that time.

For now, enjoy the weather, the events, and each other.

God bless,

Tim

Principal's Message

Dear Savio Family,

I hope many of you had the opportunity to attend the Smart Families presentations here on campus a few weeks ago. They also did a presentation for the whole student body. This is the first year of a 3-year partnership to work with the organization that seeks to support families and schools in engaging with technology in a healthy and intentional way. If you would like more information please check out their website, smart-families.org, where there are numerous resources for parents. There will be more sessions coming in the Spring Semester.

This year, as you know, we have been implementing the Arise program development by the Dominican Sisters. This program combines insights from neurobiology with the Catholic call to holiness. Each week students learn about a topic pertaining to neurobiological, gives them a strategy to implement in their own lives, and explores a virtue. This week students are learning about the amygdala, the prefrontal cortex, and the virtue of patience.

Both of these programs are part of the school's mission of helping our students be happy, healthy and holy, in a world that can be very stressful and confusing at times. We hope to continue to work together with parents as we seek to navigate these times together.

Thank you and God Bless,

Evan

SPA Rosary Invites You:
Come Pray With Us!

The SPA Rosary Group meets every day to lift our school community in prayer. We pray one decade of the rosary by name for each student and staff member at Savio.

We are currently working our way through praying for our freshmen, the Class of 2029. Our freshmen prayer schedule is linked below. Seniors, you’re next! We pray for seniors in the fall in order to cover our upper classmen as they finish up the college application process. We are currently planning to begin praying for seniors in mid-November. Watch your email and snail mail for letters from us letting you know when your child’s decade is coming up. There is no action required, but we would love for you to join us!

Anyone can come at any time, whether we're praying for your grade or not. This is an open invitation. And we are looking to grow our ministry. We have several moms again this year who are about to “graduate”, as their youngest children are seniors. High school goes too fast! Please join us and prayerfully consider whether you might want to be a regular prayer warrior.

We meet at 8:30 am in the Chapel Monday through Thursday to pray the Rosary, and on Fridays, we pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for open intentions in the Marian Courtyard outside from 8:15-8:35 am. We also offer a Google Meets link on Monday-Thursday for those who would like to join remotely. Check out our schedule, Google Meets link, and prayer guides below.

The rosary is a beautiful prayer of meditation on the life of Christ while lifting up our own intentions, and it is our pleasure to pray for you!

Please feel free to share intentions with us via the spa rosary email account at sparosary@saviochs.org.

We look forward to praying with you (and for you) this year!

No Shave November
I mustache you a question…Are you ready for No Shave November?!? Each November, the Savio community comes together to raise money for the fight against cancer. This year we are excited to offer a No Shave November t-shirt (soft Comfort Colors), there will be a competition to vote for a teacher to shave his beard at the end of the month, and we are offering luminarias to honor those we love who have been affected by cancer! All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. All students who are growing beards will get to show them off in December during an assembly and compete to win different beard awards! Any questions can be directed to seniors Alexander Boecking and Nolan Ray, or Mrs. Heyl.

  • For $35 you get a t-shirt, 10 votes, and get to grow a beard during the month of November.
  • Can’t grow a beard? No worries, for $25 you still get a t-shirt and 5 votes.
  • For $5 you can buy a luminaria that will be displayed in honor of a loved one.

Complete the form to place your t-shirt order OR to participate in No Shave November by not shaving throughout the month of November. This form will close at midnight on Friday, October 31 and NO EXTRA t-shirts will be ordered.

Service Opportunities

The students of the Christian Outreach class will continue to communicate service opportunities that are happening in the Austin area on our website. You can find ongoing and one-time service opportunities there! You may contact Mrs. Heyl at aheyl@saviochs.org if you have any questions. Here are some upcoming service events:

  • We are excited to announce that Feed My People is every Thursday now! Savio faculty take a group of students downtown at 4:30 am to feed the homeless a hot breakfast and the group returns before school starts. Students who attend can wear jeans and spirit wear all day at school! Sign up on this form for the fall semester.
