Greetings!

Welcome to the September 3rd edition of the Eagle Update. Today is Wednesday, Memorial of Saint Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church. The Mass reflection is below. The complete reading can be found on the USCCB website.

"Speak, Lord, your servant is listening;

you have the words of everlasting life.”

From the President's Desk

Dear Savio Family,

September is here and we are off to a busy and great start at Savio!

Just a brief message to let you know that the latest update of our "Build the Future" strategic plan will be coming to you this Friday, September 5th. This is a follow up from the last update sent out on May 9, 2025.

When you receive it, and have a chance to review it, please note that it includes updates on the eight pillars of the plan and the "next steps" action items from May through August. The committee work assigned to each pillar focuses on both ongoing and new items generated by committee discussion and discernment.

Please email Mr. Psencik and/or me if you have any questions about the plan.

Thank you for choosing Savio and thank you for your prayers and support too.

God bless,

Tim

Upcoming Events

Principal's Message

Dear Savio Family,

I can’t believe we are already in our 4th week of school. The year is flying by. The 4th week means we are almost at the midway point of the first quarter. Next week progress reports will be sent out to give you a snapshot of your child’s academic progress so far. If your child is in need of extra help or is struggling please have them reach out to their teacher. We have so many supports in place to make sure our students are successful, including weekly tutoring on Tuesdays during AOH facilitated by members of the National Honor Society. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the faculty or staff with any questions.

This Friday will be our first Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Vincent de Paul. This is something that we do every first Friday of the month to strengthen our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Parents are always welcome to come and pray and worship with us.

Friday night will also be our first home football game. Our games are hosted at Westwood High School. We are very excited about the season so I hope you all will come out and support the team.

Thank you and God Bless,

Evan

Let's start the year off right and show our Savio faculty and staff how grateful we are for them!

SPA Rosary Invites You: Come Pray With Us!

Over the course of the year, the SPA Rosary Group prays one decade of the rosary by name for each staff member, teacher, coach and student at Savio. You are welcome to join us anytime! We gather at 8:30 am Mondays through Thursdays in the Chapel on campus.

AND NOW…We have created a new Google Meets Link for those who would like to join remotely.

https://b.link/SPA-Rosary

We are setting up the prayer calendar for students now, and we will contact you via email or snail mail when your student’s turn is coming up, so make sure the school has your correct information. Intentions can be shared with us by emailing sparosary@saviochs.org, but no action is required. We look forward to praying with you (and for you!) this year.

Soiree Committee Volunteers Needed

Interested in helping with a large fundraising effort to benefit ALL Savio Students? The Soiree Committee may be the place for you!

The committee consists of 5 sub committees:

  • Procurement & Silent Auction Basket Making (January - April, most can be done from home)
  • Event Decor  (Feb - April with Majority in April)
  • Day of Event Set up / Breakdown (Day before load in/day of set up / week after unloading of the truck)
  • Marketing (can be done from home, September - April)
  • Day of Event Coordinators(Month of (April) & Day of)

We are looking for 2 SOIREE Chairs and multiple members for each committee.

Each committee has a different level of commitment at various times throughout the year. If you are INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE, please contact Stephanie Boss at sboss@saviochs.org or 512-244-4863 (or text 713-882-0174)

Reaching out does not guarantee you a spot on the committee and does not mean you are committing. We will have a conversation to make sure we are a good fit for each other first and this is a great time for you to ask questions regarding your strengths, our needs and the commitment vs. your availability. Being on this committee will more than likely fulfill your volunteer hours for the year. Your student may also volunteer to help on the day of Soiree and will receive volunteer hours as well.

You can find ongoing and one-time service opportunities there! You may contact Mrs. Heyl at aheyl@saviochs.org if you have any questions. Here are some upcoming service events:

  • Savio students and their families have been invited to participate in the September 11 Habitat For Humanity Day of Service on Saturday, September 13. The day will include an opening ceremony, 2.5 hours of volunteer projects, and a closing lunch with fellowship, music, and activities for all ages. All ages welcome - come serve, remember, and unite with us. Sign Up Here!
  • UMC Northwest Hills is sponsoring a Rise Against Hunger Food Packaging event on September 28 and they have reached out to us to get Savio students to participate! The meals will be sent to countries worldwide to fight hunger, targeting communities facing high rates of food insecurity. Sign Up Here!
  • We are excited to announce that Feed My People is every Thursday now! Savio faculty take a group of students downtown at 4:30 am to feed the homeless a hot breakfast and the group returns before school starts. Students who attend can wear jeans and spirit wear all day at school! Sign up on this form for the fall semester.
  • Parishes are reaching out to us needing help at their fall festivals! This is an easy and fun way to get service hours. St. John Vianney, St. Theresa, and St. Vincent de Paul all have lots of opportunities available! See more information on our website.
