Bringing God's People Together Across the Region

R.I.P. Charlie Kirk

Pray for Charlie's wife, Erika,

and their two children

Yesterday, Sept. 10, outspoken Jesus-lover, Charlie Kirk was literally assasinated at a University in Utah.

Charlie was 31 yrs. old, and the founder and head of Turning Point USA. Charlie was not a politician, but a courageous young Christian who cared deeply his faith, and was a populist proclaimer of truth to millions of college students across the U.S. and beyond. Charlie spoke boldly about faith in Jesus Christ, about family, and about cultural issues from a Biblically based perspective.

I did not personally know Charlie Kirk, but I have viewed a number of video clips of him engaging students on campus with such joy and effectiveness. Here was an extremely articulate and brilliant, as well as a self-taught young man, who seemed called to be a kind of preacher, but not.

Somehow, it has seemed to me that Charlie Kirk's murder was almost like Stephen in the Bible. It seems to represent a sea change. It's as though Charlie was targeted for extinction because he spoke the truth so effectively and graciously, and it infuriated those under the influence of evil. He is like a modern day martyr, after a fashion, as his forthright testimony of Jesus Christ was invariably a part of his public engagements. For some reason that only the Most High God knows, Charlie's God-honoring and impactful life was cut short. Only God, in His providential dealings with man, can explain this one. But, to we who know the Only Wise God, we know that He alone can turn a curse into a blessing (Deut.23:5).

May the testimony of Jesus that he espoused, and the truths he proclaimed through media and into the lives of so many young people, continue to have impact as the life of Able, who "though dead, yet speaketh (Heb.11:4)."

Let us continue to pray for God's Kingdom to come and His will to prevail, here on earth as in heaven ... into the hearts of elementary, middle, high school and college students across these United States.

And set your alarms for 10:02 to remember to pray into Jesus' prayer request for "laborers for the harvest" (Luke 10:2) to reach these rising generations.

Shalom,

Tom Hare
