We are National Champions! For the first time in Tusculum’s history, track won Tusculum’s first and then second national championship in the 4X1 Relay and then the 100 meters. We are proud of our coach and track team. And, they accomplished this without Tusculum having its own track. Fortunately, a new track is being built across the street from campus this year. Not coincidentally, Coach Rob Williams was the women’s coach of the year in the SAC (South Atlantic Conference).

Tusculum has a strong tradition of athletics. Our success can be measured through all the wins and championships through the years, but our success is also measured in character development. The average GPA of our student athletes is higher than the average GPA for students who do not play a sport. GPA’s are actually higher on average in season than out of season. I am proud that Tusculum still puts the “student” in student-athlete first. Our coaches are committed to winning, but also to helping our students graduate and to become better people. Athletics is a part of the Tusculum’s “active and experiential education” and plays a critical role “equipping career ready professionals.”

Come to a game and cheer on your fellow Pioneers! Join the Pioneer Club and support our student athletes.

HONOR THEIR LEGACY. SHARE YOUR STORY.

We are reaching out to former players, students, and members of the Tusculum community who had the opportunity to learn from, be mentored by, or simply spend time in the Auxiliary Gym during their time on campus, including those impacted by Coach Ralph Horne and Dr. David Bow.

As part of the renovation of the Auxiliary Gym, soon to be named David Bow Gymnasium with the court honoring Coach Horne, we’re inviting those connected to this space to help recognize its impact and the individuals who helped shape it.

Both have left a meaningful mark on Tusculum. Coach Horne’s connection to Tusculum spans generations, first as a standout basketball student-athlete and later as an assistant coach. Dr. Bow, who joined the Tusculum faculty in 1977, has spent over five decades teaching, mentoring, and serving in leadership roles across campus.

The renovation will benefit not only our student-athletes, but also the broader campus community through classes, recreation, and intramural use.

We ask you to take a moment and please consider in being part of this. A gift of any size helps support this project, and we would also value a short note from you, about how the facility, Coach Horne, and/or Dr. Bow impacted your experience at Tusculum.

With your permission, we will share select messages on our Pioneer Club social media platforms. Notes collected for Dr. Bow will also be compiled and presented to him personally as a lasting tribute.

Thank you for taking the time to help recognize what this place and these individuals have meant to so many.

To make an online donation, please visit the link below or scan the QR code. Then select “David Bow Gymnasium / Ralph Horne Court Project” from the dropdown menu. In the personal note section, we encourage you to share a brief message about how the facility, Coach Horne, and/or Dr. Bow impacted your experience at Tusculum.

We mourn the loss of members of our alumni community. Although we may not have all the details, we remember and honor those who have passed away. Each person’s contribution to our community, in their own way, has left a lasting impact that will continue to resonate with us.

Our thoughts are with their families, friends, and all who were fortunate to know them. Their memories will forever be cherished, and their legacies will live on in the hearts of those they touched.

June at Tusculum

Summer Engagement Begins!

June brings the start of summer at Tusculum, a season of new opportunities, hands-on experiences, and continued connection with Pioneer Nation. As the academic year transitions into summer, we look forward to engaging alumni, friends, and community members through meaningful events that encourage connection, learning, and fun.

This month, summer engagement kicks off with the Try Scuba experience on June 6, 2026, offering a unique, hands-on opportunity for participants to try something new in a fun and interactive setting. This experience is a great way to connect with fellow Pioneers while enjoying an unforgettable introduction to scuba diving.

Looking ahead to July, we continue building momentum with a variety of engagement opportunities. On July 9, 2026, join us for Dine to Donate at Texas Roadhouse, where a portion of the proceeds will support Tusculum initiatives, making it an easy and enjoyable way to give back while connecting with others. Then on July 23, 2026, we invite you to the Alumni Baseball Flyboys Game at Pioneer Park, where alumni and the community will come together in a relaxed, family-friendly environment to support Tusculum Athletics and enjoy a summer evening on campus.

In addition to these scheduled events, we are excited to offer ongoing opportunities for connection through our Coffee & Connect initiative. Alumni, friends, and community members are invited to reach out and schedule a time to meet, whether over coffee or on campus, to catch up, hear the latest updates, and explore ways to stay engaged. We are also happy to arrange campus tours and share the many exciting things happening at Tusculum.

We are also “hitting the road” by popular request and bringing engagement opportunities directly to our alumni and friends. As we plan events, we are seeking alumni and partners who can help host gatherings, secure venues, sponsor events, or assist with local outreach to help boost participation. If you’re interested in getting involved in your area, we would love to connect and build something meaningful together.

As always, we are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our alumni and friends. Your connection to Tusculum plays a vital role in enriching student experiences and strengthening our community. We look forward to seeing you this summer as we continue building momentum across Pioneer Nation.

If you have any questions or would like to connect, feel free to reach out to me at mebryant@tusculum.edu or call 423.636.7407.

Warmest regards,
