Biblical prosperity is defined in this verse. Many Christians have problems with the “prosperity message”, but that’s only because it hasn’t been taught correctly. God’s idea of prosperity has nothing to do with the accumulation of worldly possessions.
From His perspective, it’s all about taking care of the cost of living first, and then having an abundance left over to sow (give) into whatever ministry or ministries He lays on your heart. It’s really that simple. Pay your bills and then give abundantly to help God with the cost of evangelism and discipleship.
The Great Commission of Mark 16:15-18 and Matthew 28:18-20 can’t be carried out for free. Building a church costs money. Flying to the country where God wants you to work costs money. Holding crusades costs money. Discipling people costs money.
But the good news is that God promises rich returns for what He calls the “generous soul”. Why? Because the more you give for the work of the gospel, the more you get in return from God. Its not up to God – but up to us! The more you give Him to multiply, the more He will multiply!
But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 2 Corinthians 9:6
The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself. Proverbs 11:25
As we finish 2024, purpose in your heart that 2025 will be your most generous year in terms of sowing and reaping for God. Investing in the world’s methods of stocks, bonds and the like is always a calculated risk. Good if you make money, but its possible to lose it all. Not with God! His returns are guaranteed, in this life and forever in eternity.
Remember what Jesus said: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
