Greetings!

We've just gone "fine-free." Why? Because we believe in providing free and open access to knowledge for all.

Our core mission is to connect "... people with each other, ideas, and opportunities to support lifelong learning, personal growth, and community development." And late fines, no matter how small, prevent people who can’t afford them from using the Library, which means they can’t access books required for schoolwork, use public computers or access job resources, or simply have a safe, open, welcoming space to visit.

Eliminating fines for overdue materials means more people in
our community have greater access to the Library’s vital
materials, resources, and services.

As of November 17, 2021, the Hoboken Public Library no longer charges late fees for HPL-owned items returned late. This includes:
● Books owned by Hoboken Public Library
● Magazines
● CDs
● DVDs/BluRays
● Console games
● Audiobooks
but it does not include items borrowed from other libraries.
All items still, of course, have a due date, and we encourage you to return items on time. Timely returns mean your fellow library users who may be waiting for those items will not be disappointed.

You have overdue fines now? No problem! If you have outstanding overdue fines accrued on your library card for Hoboken items, stop in and we will
waive them on the spot. No questions asked.

The fine print: After 90 days, late items will be considered lost and a replacement fee will be added to your account.
Did you see it covered on CBS Mornings? Watch it now.

Your Library was host to a very special Story Time featuring Admiral William McRaven telling the story of Skipper the Seal, a children's version of the author's "Make Your Bed" bestseller. The event was recorded by CBS Mornings, and lead the Thursday, November 18 live interview with Admiral McRaven. You can watch the interview here.
